I was wondering what kind of modifications people are making to their ice gear. Personally, I've cut the hammer off and added a shelf/loop at the bottom of the grip on my cobras. This reduced the swing weight and allows me to climb without my leashes. I've also added heel spurs to my bionics. Are there a lot of other people doing this and how/what are you doing/using to make your modifications.

The person that owned my Charlet Moser Grade 8 crampons before me made a clever little modification. He put a pair of screws through the rear two teeth, so they are pointed backwards and slightly upwards. Essentially, they are a pair of 3/4" heel spurs. I haven't done any climbing moves involving them, but they are useful to taking rests on angled ice...just sit on your duff and kick your heels in, and you stick. Pretty nifty, I think.

I like the idea about making the android leashes stiffer. As well, I'm adding a small spacer between the axe shaft and the leash clip-in point so that the metal clip doesn't lay flat against the shaft. It is now at an easier angle to clip. I think I might sew or tape a hard rubber wedge behind the clip OR against the shaft.

I saw a guy, who cut the blades off a pair of skates, and bolted them to the back of his crampons. It was really cool, he could pull some awesome heel ooks, in soft ice.

I am trying to add a mid way pinky pommel to my Vipers but have yet to find the perfect material!

I have seen Sean Isaac with a set which I think are protos for next year.
