I may be in Josh solo starting this Saturday, 2/15. Does anyone have a group site or other site with space for another tent or bivy (and car) who would be willing to let me share? I really only need the one night, but more would be good, too. I don't snore and I smell pretty darn good. Please let me know. Thanks!! [ This Message was edited by: lynne on 2003-02-11 14:10 ]

Lynne have you checked out http://www.womenclimb.com/climbers_ranch/index.htm it's an in-town alternative to camping in the park.

thanks, Artm! Has anyone here stayed at the Climbers Ranch? If so, do you think it would be a safe haven for a lone female?

I wouldn't worry about being a lone woman at the campsites at J-tree. A bigger problem might be finding an open site on a busy weekend. The best strategy might be to walk around hidden valley or ryan asking places with only one car if they have room. It is usually just a matter of luck and a smile to get a place. Good luck on finding a place. I might be heading that way, or maybe Bishop...

I actually have a site reserverd (in Indian Cove) for Sunday to Wednesday that I'd be willing and quite happy to share, but nothing for Saturday night. I just can't fly out alone and not know if I'm going to have a safe/legal place to stay. I know, I'm a big chicken.

Hey Lynne worst case you can almost always find a site in jumbo rocks campground, even on a weekend the climbers ranch has been pretty empty but cedar wright is living there with his girlfreind in the trailer, I am sure you would be safe there. Dan

You could try parking at the back country parking and walking a little for Saturday night, then cruise over to your site on Sunday if you can't find a spot for your car at Hidden or Ryan. And like alpincmber1 said, Jumbo is always an option.

Lynn - Just as an FYI for you. It rained in SoCal today and they are forecasting rain tomorrow. Not trying to discourage, bad weather means more empty campsites. maurice

The JT Climber's Ranch is a safe place. There are many climbers who camp there and it's a recessed place so it is hard to see from the road. But really a cool place and even cooler of Wally to lay down the fundage to buy the property. House soon to come. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

Climber's Ranch is safe. But with the weather taking such a slide this week, I'm sure Jumbo (if not Ryan) will have plenty of open spaces. If all that fails, check Indian Cove on Saturday because usually a handful of people bail and don't bother coming out even with the reservation.

I love climbers! I have had an overwhelming response to my request for help as my plans changed at the last minute and I want to thank you all. Now everyone in Cali needs to work on their anti-rain dance!!

it's rainy today but should be clearing up tomorrow - good luck, Lynne. I sent you an email about a group going to J tree - they have a campsite from the 14th through the 17th and there's always room for one more.

It's Cali, it'll clear up, just pray for the wind to chill out, as it seems to want to blow during times of transition.
