how many of you have taken your bouldering pad with you on a plane? is it a hassle? if you're taking a bouldering trip do you opt to find one when you get there? i'm taking a trip to new zealand and i'm contemplating whether it'd just be easier to leave it at home. with all my rock and alpine gear plus camping gear in my duffle, i'm already tipping the scales. adding the pad would be just another HUGE thing to carry along...not so easy when you already have an 80lb duffle on your shoulder. what to do? what to do? does anyone know how much rental of a pad usually costs per day/week? cheers.

I'm pretty sure they won't let you take a bouldering pad as a carry-on anyway, lildragon. If you check it, it shouldn't be a big deal. And crash pads are fairly lightweight, even if they are bulky. AW

sorry, i didn't mean as a carry-on! although i'd much rather sleep the 20 hours away on my pad than those cramped little seats. is it a hassle travelling with your pad on your back?

It might be easier to just buy a new one when you arrive and then sell it before you return.

Just make sure it's well marked and don't bring a used bag of chalk. Get a new, sealed one.
