First post on site...but I just thought I'd share. There is almost NO legal camping in boulder...it SUCKS. My buddy and I drove around for about three hours looking for a place, even went all the way back up in the mountains. Most all the legal camp-sites(very few) are taken early and for a long time. We ended up ninja'ng a camp spot behind some elementary school (was summer time) back behind their playground or something. As an aside we then snuck into the Univ of Co athletic facility to steal showers. Oh to be young and poor. Good luck.

I don't think there is any camping to be had in Boulder itself. There is camping on Forest Service land, as well as up in Rocky Mountain National Park. I think there is also camping in Clear Creek Canyon down south near Golden. http://www.fs.fed.us/arnf/districts/brd/camping/ http://www.nps.gov/romo/ http://www.parks.state.co.us/default.asp?parkID=83&action=park

I think the only "Legal" camping in the Boulder "Mountain Parks" area is at the Fourth of July Trailhead, which isn't anywhere near the town. (Plus there's only 10 sites, and they're likely taken.) It's up past Nederland somewhere. I've camped at the Golden Gate SP to the south, and it was fine, but, again, nowhere near Boulder. Try a Google search. I miss Colorado...sorta. I don't miss Cleveland...at all.

No camping in Boulder, pretty much. There are lots of places where you can hide, low-profile, for a night out and not get bothered, but none of it legal, and none of it where you can just set up a tent and leave it for a week. You might want to check out the Boulder International Hostel. It's on 12th and College. From Broadway, turn on to College and go two blocks West. College is where Broadway takes a jog with campus to your East, "on the Hill".

The camping is bleak close to Boulder, but years ago when I roadtripped here I spent much of my time in 2 different campgrounds. One is Kelley-Dahl campground just south of Nederland which was the closest legal camping to Boulder Canyon and the other was Olive Ridge campground between Lyons and Estes Park , near Allens Park. There is some good bouldering in that campground. I've heard that you can get a campsite at the lodge at the mouth of 4 mile canyon which is about 4 miles up Boulder Canyon from Boulder. Good luck!

If you didn't see my reply to your previous post, pm me. I know of a handful of camping spots around Boulder. Some are even free.

You can camp at the Boulder mountain lodge, 15 bucks a night hot showers, or spend the extra cash for a room with a kitchen 69 bucks a night
