I make a post and then try to make another one, like a couple of MINUTES later... but it tells me I have to wait.
So I wait and wait.
And then, like a half hour later, I can post again.

It's called a tarpit. it is for bad boys who can't stop spewing crap out of their mouths. basically, you are only allowed to post every 20 minutes or whatever. this way, you actually have to think about your posts in the hope that they will have a bit more substance.

damn, maybe it's an average. A lot of people actually do post too often and I was hoping that we could tell who the losers are that actually sit there and wait for the 20 minutes to be up.

I think the time limit is longer than 20 minutes.
All I want to do is post to 2 different topics and then leave, rather than posting.. waiting and then posting again.
Noone informed me as to why my posting was restricted.
And I do keep myself contained to the boldering forum 90% of the time.
I just want to post wakeskating photos !

Oh crap.. I totally forgot. Heh. I guess too many photos of LCC and the quarrying reminds me of a large group of administrators who have the ability to do as they please with no thought to the users of the area and no communication about what goes on.

I set up auditing on Friday (with a handy little warning) so that I
1) wouldn't have to do any actual work to find out what's going on, and
2) wouldn't have to track down individuals making a change -- it'd be automatic.
As was previously the case with photos, topic movements, etc., confirmations (and rationalizations or justifications or whatever you want to call them) will be sent to the affected parties. (I finally figured out how the hell phpbb2 mangles the PM tables in the database... what a steaming pile... at least it is efficient).
You're at 30 seconds right now (in other words, you're not tarpitted. At all). I don't know who tarpitted you earlier, but from Friday onwards, tarpits (and shortly to be added, various other contentious items like banning, post deletion, etc.) will be automatically audited, so any whining can be dealt with directly.
By the way, my account at b.com "went away". Fucking nazi moderators over there.

Can someone outline the actual tarpitting procedure for me?
I'm interested in the reasons for, who can do it, how a decision is reached etc.
I understand that it is meant to stop 'abusive posting' but what qualifies as an abuse worthy of tarpitting rather than moderation?

I set up auditing for tarpits; when I get a chance I'll add the automatic PM's back in (for photos, and moderation moves, and now for tarpittings). I need to throw in a text field to give the mods room to note why they decided to "focus a users' creative energies".
