Vertical Limit is also cool. Everybody needs to carry a camera and a Big BUck pocket knife while climbing.

the best i have seen is dosage, there is just some really sick problems and people pulling really hard. MX from M9 ICE is a close second the climbing is sweet and makes me want to get out there and climb. a must see! then is masters of stone 4 i like 4 better then 5 just because of that guy doing the 5.13d finger crack roof. it's so sweet! Contact was good. all bouldering and people pulling on hard stuff. hard grit was ok but not a favorite the climbing was super hard and very impressive but did not get me as amped to go climbing as the rest.

dereldrive(dotcom) is my favortite. It's a total NAZ Cult Classic!!! David (Bloom) are you around to verify? David and the Rodman do some pretty sick stuff at the Winslow Wall and down in Sedona. I hope the RodMan made a full recovery. Last I heard he decked and had a problem with destroying both of his ankles.....

With the qualifier of "best mainstream video," since a lot of videos that are amazing -- think mt. film festivals -- don't ever make it to market, my picks are: Feature Length: HardGrit -- from a cinematic standpoint it is the highwater mark. unbelievable and historic footage of "headpointing." Done in film; flawless editing. Shorts: Splinter -- a film about Malcolm Smith training on his woodie to get the second ascent of the then hardest climb in England, Hubble. Quirky and eccentric, but speaks volumes about just how much single minded energy the top climbers throw into sending their projects. Realization -- merely one chapter of Josh Lowell's "Dosage Vol 1." The whole collection of shorts is good, but this one stands out. It beautifully captures the trials of an American climbing icon on one of the most historic routes of the new millennium. Black Lung -- Mike Call did a good job capturing Moon's and moffit's exploits in Utah, with emotional footage of Moon getting the FA of Black Lung. PS: To whoever said, "On the Rocks:" This video is a historical nugget, showing Leavitt, Hong, Moffit, Yaniro and others at their peak. The yaniro and Gill footage is particularly captivating (Yaniro looks freakin' ripped!). However, it was obviously made for TV and has that bland, "I'm a producer who got stuck covering a sport I know nothing about" feel to it. Cheesy commentary. People wearing painter pants and chalk buckets the size of Dodge Geos. My other favorites: The Real Thing, Free Hueco, Rampage, West Coast Pimp, The Salathe, Bleau, Masters of Stone I.

Spot on with your nomination for "Splinter" mate. Really captures Malc's amazing dedication and his super-composed style. Here's another nice one if you have a minute: http://www.benmoon.co.uk/html/features/cypher.html This is Ben Moon nailing his FA of "Cypher", a mad 8b boulder problem here in Britain. It's great fun, and shows that even the best climbers fall off sometimes!

My fav has to be "Uncommon Ground". It has a little bit of everything, bouldering, trad, sport, some old clips of Henry Barber climbing 5.10+ without shoes... has some big names like Barber, Graham, Kinder... lots of great shots. Hell, even the soundtrack is cool.

It's great fun, and shows that even the best climbers fall off sometimes! i think that the best climbers fall way more often than the rest of us do. that's because they have the tolerance and patience to keep sticking at it, no matter how hard the problem is. so i guess that's why they become so good after all! oh, btw... getting back to the topic... i'm a big fan of Klem Loskot's movie clips. craziest climber around...

Uncommon ground was really fine. Supriseingly good sound track as well. With all the young climbers in it I thought the music would be thrasher but it is realy good stuff and the climbing rocks as well. Of course it Is allways nice to see your home crags in the spotlight 8) That shot of Synot takeing the big gear ripper off of Manchurian Refuge really gave me the willies  Reminded me how much I hate ice climbing even though I love it

Climbing video? Probably one of the Masters of Stone. Climbing movie? The Eiger Sanction...there is NOTHING hotter than a young, fit Clint Eastwood climbing up the red rocks of Zion. It didn't have all the cheesy FX of today's climbing flicks either.

Best Clip: Psicobloc -- Josh Lowell clip of Klem Loskot and pals deep water soloing in Mallorca. The double dyno is one of the sweetest single moves ever caught on film. Best Video: Frequent Flyers -- The climbing isn't as classic as Rampage but the showcase of beautiful areas and the more mature cinematography make up for the lack of Sharma and amazing FA's.

I've got about 20 vids/DVD's. My fave is probably Hard Grit. I also love Psicobloc ("I was dreaming of this double dyno..."). The DVD of Inertia 1+2 (climbing meets Jackass) is also really good, but I only ever play it with the director commentary on, because it's hella funny. As for fave footage, it's gotta be Dean speed soloing on the Nose in MOS 5. At the risk of destroying my host, I'll post a link to my own most recent video. It's called "Sea, Salt & Slopers - Climbing at Point Perpendicular" and is 4:40 in length and 15.7MB. I recommend saving it to disk, then viewing. Feel free to comment.

In reply to: At the risk of destroying my host, I'll post a link to my own most recent video. It Dude the video is great! Really nice work describing an enjoyable climbing day. I would like to see it focusing a bit more one some moves. When this dude was out on the edge, the x2 speed quite hide the sequence of moves. But overall I loved it. And it lookd pro. Good work!

For me, one of the best climbing videos I have seen is "Pais de Roca". In it you can see top spanish climbers (Josune Bereziartu, Dani Andrada, Pablo Barbero, Iker Pou...) in some of the best routes of the country (El calvario del sikario, honky mix, la rambla directa...).

Eiger Saction was filmed in Monument National Park though - the third time I saw it I waited for the credits to settle a disagreement on the subject with someone.
