I know this is often posted but today i lead my first Trad route today! It was only part of the small local crag (i had not done this route yet). But, i've been placeing pro for the past couple weeks at ground level and i have some help from experienced climbers and i went for the gold today and lead it! it was only a 5.4 but it felt like i just conquered the world! i am so excited about climbing! Thanks to everyone on this site for always give great advice and posting their knowledge! You have helped me along my climbing path! :D :D keep reaching higher! Brian :D

As I've said before, All that's left now is to set back, and watch the ladies swoon over the incredible Trad Daddy. They may even ask to see your nuts... Travis <--using old material, really needs some new jokes...

There are two things you're going to rember for the rest of your life...your first trad lead and the first time you had sex.

finally got a pic loaded: my first *real* trad lead! before this i had led a 5.1 about 2 years prior. Here i am on a 5.5 open book crack climb, shaking out while trying to figure out what gear goes where. ended up placing a #3 friend. happy to be tradding! http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=16559

In reply to: ...And now to capture the elusive first trad lead fall..... I agree. After I took several trad lead falls, I actually got more comfortable on lead. Sometimes I take a fall just to get the fear out of the way. The main challenge for me at times is getting off the ground in the first place. Just be certain your gear is solid. Peace

that picture is from a couple months ago now, i've led a bit more, including multipitch. i think 5.6 is the toughest grade i'm willing to hit this season. i sat on my gear for the first time last weekend - it's a cool feeling, i'm eyeing it suspiciously, knowing it's going to hold, but it's still kind of new.... going back to climbing in the gym is just funny! the draws are already there!

Congratulations my friend. I too just enjoyed my first trad lead! 5.2 west crack of the whale's tail in Eldo. Great chunky two - great first lead. CONGRATS on yours and welcome to the chess game called being on the sharp end of the rope. :) Peace and happiness, JD

I did mine too!!!!!!!!! It was on a route that I already know, a 5.10c and my friends told me to try it trad and i was like... hmmm  ? why not... then they showed me how to do it! and i started to go up on it and it took me FOREVER to finish it, and trusting the cams and the frenz is SO danm hard.... that i didn't wanna fall... At the end I finished without falling and it felt pretty good!!! I'm sooo in love with climbing now... and today was a really greatful day for me.... after doing this, did my first leading on a 5.12a... AMAZINGLY I finished it... WOW I'm impressed!
