Wednesday the 13th of August was the Brisbane public holiday for the local show called the Ekka (short of exhibition or the Royal National Association Agricultural Exhibition).

Perfect day for an organised trip up to the Glasshouse Mountains to check out a much fabled geological oddity called the Room Cave.

The tourist track, as you can tell there`s, well, lots of tourists on this track, I`m just guessing but mebbe that`s why they call it the tourist track.

This cave is actually a large boulder of volcanic origin. Perhaps more precisely it is a slump of lava glued on to the side of a mountain which has become hollowed out. The crust of this boulder is quite hard and the innards are relatively soft and this through the action of the Earths elements of wind and erosion has hollowed the inside of this boulder out.

A great view of Mt. Tibrogargan.

We had to rap in to this location and then climb out. Before we sauntered down to find the rap anchor we walked up to the top of Mt. Beerwah to find the summit quarter acre inhabitted with a swarm of flying ants. I have never seen soooo many ants swarming in huge squadrons as that day.

that's fantastic! thanks for sharing...

some of those photos looking out the 'windows' kinda look like rorschach images!!

one looks like a turkey vulture feeding on the carcass of some noob! poor guy!
