Mornin' Eric, Ryan, Kelly and Bob: Bob, I heard you had a rough ending on Friday. Fun climbing with you and Erica. Hope you're feeling better. I assume the NE is backup and running with electric. Ryan begin you countdown...4 days..6 hours 36 min... You should have gone climbing with us on Friday. The mid atlantic had the best weather on Sunday. No humidity and sun, 80F (26C) and I worked all day around the house. Bummer. I want a 2 bedroom condo with a big garage for my toys. So when something breaks I call the super. Today looks like rain. Well good morning. While I was not able to climb I did do the dragonboat races here in Edmonton. My corporate team (novices) won the gold medal in the Second Division (amazing). We also should have won the novice cup but we were knocked out of the running by a third boat which crashed into us allowing another team to pull ahead for the victory . Oh well I guess thats the way it goes. More info @ www.edbfa.com. It was a fun weekend but now my back is a little sore.

Glad so many people got to enjoy themselves this weekend. I myself didn't get any climbing in this weekend as i thrashed myself pretty bad climbing Friday night. Think I may have pulled some tendons in the back of my hand plus MANY MANY sore muscles. Doing the R.I.C.E. thing with the hand along with regulat Ibuprofen and so far it's going well. Mostly pain free except for grasping motions in certain hand positions. Biggest bummer is that weather here in the Northeast is looking GORGEOUS this week. Low to mid 70's with low humidity and plenty of sunshine and I'm taking at least a week off in the middle of it!!! So My monday is sucking like a Hoover but two cups of coffee in and things are looking up. So that's something.

I got a little bouldering in. Went to Pike Run near Seven Springs ski resort. It's not too shabby. The parking stinks, though.

Nice pic. Sounds like everybody had fun (vomiting excluded). I had back problems all weekend and had to settle for watching the boys climb all weekend. Couldn't even be a belay slave. I got 3/4 of the way up my first climb both days. It is really not like me to back off a climb for any reason, so the guys pretty much freaked when I said "dirt" both times. :x Hopefully, I'm better soon. I have three climbing and/or backpacking trips in a row planned starting this weekend. And I WILL be going.

In reply to: In reply to: Vomitous Maximus and daughter. ...LOL!!...I look a lot better there than I did on Friday!!! ...Jake...sounds awesome...!!! Could you tell there was a blackout...were the lights out in the distance? MR it was kind of cool because as we were hearing various astonishing reports of the eastern seaboard and the north east of being without electricity we were like "OK!!!". we got our tent [though i slept out under the stars], our food, our petzyl headlamps to go along with our starry starry skies and climbing. we simply shrugged our shoulders as it being a mere trifle. however coming into grand central on friday afternoon was wild. there were no lights and an attendant with a bullhorn was shouting out train departures from the top of the western staircase. to see grand central with no lights is almost post apocolyptic and totally eerie. manhatten on friday afternoon like it was early sunday morning was totally strange. everything was shut down. several articles in the local papers related to how neighbors actually liked it because they all held gatherings on their streets, porches and corners and many of the said "hey!!!! i'd like to see it happen again".

In reply to: I wish I had the guts to try trad. Someday. Just not yet. i only followed but trad is way rad. even though i was only following getting into a crux move and having to get your nut extractor out and hold one handed which by the way is very difficult for me as i'm right handed and hence the hand i use for my tool and my left hand has like maybe 50% strength & mobility from an accident so it was very challeging. we did a 3 pitch that totally wigged me out and as we're sitting on the top this young girl climbs up past us with no rope or pro. she free solo'd the climb that wigged me and i'm thinking like "holy f--king $hit... is that ballsy". damn!!!!! but i'm most definitely a trad addict. now if i could only afford a rack :D

In reply to: In reply to: but i'm most definitely a trad addict. now if i could only afford a rack :D Well then get a job you bum!!!! (Of course then when would you have time to climb???? The classic conundrum. ) yeah!!!! it is the classic connundrum. i got to spend wed, thur and fri at the gunks but in the meantime i can't afford my own rack. they really should have a welfare rack org out there for us non-conformists. on the bright side i sold a few memorials on the weekend so have a few dollars for rent.

meanwhile I swore up and down that I wouldn't need any trad gear until one of my regular partners bought a small set of nuts and started using them for TR anchors insated of having to run 30' slings and suddenly I'm trying to squeeze another couple hundred out of the family CFO...

She can handle that stuff. Did ya'll go to Franklin on Sunday. I almost called Andrew (the 'kid' that climbs really good) to go down there but chores bogged me down all weekend. We'll hook up again.
