So the other day I was out a local sport climbing area getting ready to climb. There were only 3 experienced climbers there (including myself) and the other 2 were busy belaying... and being belayed. So I took it upon myself to hike up to the top and setup a top-rope.
I had not gone up and setup a top-rope at this wall for over a year now. As I reach the top I am looking around and WAL-LA! I see this piece of webbing sitting there with over 25 individual pieces of trad gear and over 10 free biners with it.
And now my attention is focused on this potential booty. It is organized, grouped and left on top of the wall sitting on the ground. So I bring it down and set it on the ground. Not a single soul came by looking for it. And we had a great climbing day.
Afterwards I posted a note at the 2 local gear shops, telling about the lost gear and if anyone had lost anything to call me, descibe it and prove that it is yours. And I will be happy to send it to you. So now I am putting the post here on RC.com as well. I would love to keep this gear but I would love even more to see the real owners get it back.
PM me if you have lost anything. I will be needing some good details about the gear (IE: All nuts, All hexes, Alll CAMS, All mixed gear or whatever, and you will need to tell me the colorage of slings and webbing, the approximate size range of the whole rack, plus you will need to know at which wall it was found.) I know I am being anal about this, but oh well. I wanna make sure the original owner gets it back, and honestly I want it if the owner never comes along. Time will tell. :D

Good job man, I hope you find the owner. It's good of you to make the effort that you are. And if he never comes forward, I hope you have some good climbs with your new rack :wink: .

for christmas i plan on leaving gear like that (but not nearly as much) at the summit of a climb... not one you can hike up to, however.

It's one thing to have your rack stolen, as in the rack recovered by hollyclimber, but it's another to just forget your entire trad rack at the crag... that falls so close to the realm of idiocy, it's almost criminal... just think about it... that poor, lost little rack, all alone and scared out in the wild... practically discarded like an old toy... it's lucky you came to its rescue...
seriously, anyone who leaves an entire trad rack on the top of a cliff is a dumbass... it's a good thing you're doing in trying to find the tool who left it there, but i wouldn't have any guilt in keeping it if you never found them...

I found $100 once, turned it into the police and no one ever came for it. I checked back and that money was MINE! It was really pimp. The sketchiest part about the whole thing was when I gave the money to the police they didn't ask for my contact information, THEY WERE PLANNING ON JUST KEEPING IT the dirt balls. I had to tell them to write my name down so that I would get it back if no one claimed it!
Sounds like you just scored some gear if you haven't heard back by now. I know that I'd be running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find that gear! We've had a few of these posts recently, should there be a "lost and found" forum so that these threads don't get buried in "general" or some other more obscure forum?
