What program can I use to write over top of digital images of a crag or wall to input anchors, fixed pieces, approach / walk off etc. I want to create photo topos for new crags I have developed and I am a fairly low tech guy!

Most photo editing programs will do it.

If you're just adding lines and letters, photoshop is a serious overkill. Something even like Microsoft Paint would do it.

In reply to: What program can I use to write over top of digital images of a crag or wall to input anchors, fixed pieces, approach / walk off etc. I want to create photo topos for new crags I have developed and I am a fairly low tech guy! Don't use Photoshop or Paint to draw route lines. Size and manipulate your photos (for contrasts/sharpness etc) in Photoshop. Save as a tif. Then import in to a vector drawing package like Freehand or Illustrator. Lock in a layer then use a .5 or 1pt solid black line to draw your route lines then clone those lines and change to white hatched lines of the same weight. Mick www.rockfax.com

Mick www.rockfax.com exactly...and then finish your topos in a nice little book with QuarkX...

Great suggestion guys however...
In reply to: I am a fairly low tech guy! Plus not everyone has access to both Photoshop and Illustrator, not to mention some of the other options you presented.

Mick is right on. At Supertopo we use Adobe Illustrator. Place the photo as a TIFF or EPS file and draw the lines on a seperate layer. Copy the lines and paste behind as a white stroke with slightly greater stroke wieght. A Wacom pen tablet makes the job easier if you have a lot of lines to draw but it's certainly not necessary. It's hardly what I would describe as a "high tech" operation. Any Kinkos will have a design station with Illustrator installed.

I've done it in Paint and it came out fine. Proabably easier for the casual user than the programs with all the "bells and whissles".
