not really, but it's almost impossible to miss the cliffs on the Nam Ou (just hire a boat to the Pak Ou caves). Vang Vieng might be more interesting (will certainly be more humid).

See Simon Foley's climbing page for more info on Laos:

http://www.simonfoley.com/climbing/laos.htm

The cliffs by the river are pretty cool looking, but the bouldering looked more like playing along the base of the cliff, versus boulderish stuff. Locals (i.e., villagers, not climber locals) indicated that some Aussies had been seen there as recently as a couple of years ago -- they considered that a lot of climber traffic. This is what the cliff looks like:

There is supposed to be more stuff in Vang Vieng, but I never made it there. Even if you don't climb, LP is a cool place to hang out. Some bandit activity near VV this spring, BTW.

hi,
i partly lived in laos the last 2 years. for most information see the comments on simon foleys page. we boltet 60 routes around vang vieng, most of the area is included in the new thai guidebook of elke and we. some can be downloaded through www.softrock.de and also through simons page. their will be a lao guidebook on vv in oktober, available through wildside (www.green-discovery something). not much bouldering, not in vv. i saw cool blocks, but in the sun at the road to Pha Kham Quai, right at the entrence of the national park, around 1-1.5 hours from vientianne. at the wildside office in vang vieng is a new routes book, which i left. i will be there in oktober for 2 weeks and prob feb/march.
