Anyone else see the little bear and her 3 cubs running around in Rumney this weekend? It was the first time I had seen a bear and I was suprised how small they were! It was such a cool experience! There was a note posted in the parking lot warning people not to approach the bears. who in their right mind would approach a bear, especially one with cubs? Just wanted to share! It was so cool! tiff

First time you had seen a bear? I've seen a bunch. learned not to get close after I saw a few cubs at the dump when I was little and proabably got within 20 feet of them. Had my hand out and everything. First time I heard my dad swear. Turns out mama was down in the pit. Whoops. Learned that lesson real quick.

You know the old saying "don't get in the middle of the mama and her cubs"? Well trust me, it's true. Dad and I once saw this huge bear along a road up on a hill. We got out of the truck to get a closer look and when we heard the cubs on the other side of the street and noticed the Mama bear started grunting and running towards us, we hauled ass out of there. I do not lie on this nor is this some troll.

I'm not a bear expert, but my understanding is that momma bears choose a relatively small area of territory to roam, typically one that has a ready food supply and provides a feeling of safety from other large critters. So my guess is that she'll stay as long as there are plenty of young sport climbers to munch on (and their trash).
