What do you all do when you aren't able to hit the rocks (or the plastic :) ) to curb those climbing withdraw syptoms (starting think those bricks outside are looking good, excess energy, drifting off into a climbing fantasy, testing out random things for holds etc )? :(

I suffer the withdrawal symptoms. I don't know of a cure. :( The only way I can stop wishing I was climbing is to go climbing.

Trying to figure out how much gear I can buy with the money I've got. Trying to figure out what I could do next without getting killed. Reading this evil digital crack website.

I cry. Seriously. I get super depressed about my pathetic life. My kids and climbing are pretty much what it's all about for me anymore. The days that I don't have the kiddos and can't climb, holy moly. . .you don't wanna be around me. There is nothing else that I can do to feed the rat. But one thing I do to keep my sanity is workout hard! I try to think of it as something that I'm doing to help me climb better. Then I read guidebooks and hike. I'm sick, I acknowledge that fact. I think I need to diversify or something.

I dont let not-climbing become an option. I'll climb anything, door frames, buildings, moulding. Right now im working ona problem down my suite hallway. My suite-mates all make fun of me, but hey who cares.

I live vicariously throught the people on this site who are lucky enough to be climbing instead of sitting in an office reading about it. Then I go to the store and buy more gear. Buying gear helps ease most of the withdrawl symptoms.

I make a felt hat. I look at pictures of puppies. I go to the Denver museum of art and yell at the sinks to stop singing "Row row row your boat!" Really. They do that. So annoying! #$#$@#$!! Why couldn't they sing "For those about to Rock"?

I started working a short problem on a offset brick column in Witchita airport on the way back from a business trip a few months ago. Three days in Witchita. Not a lot of vertical there. I had to stop, though. Airports security didn't think it was cool. Working on a wall in my basement to keep going through the winter.

During the day . . . I drudgingly scrub the dirt marks off the door frames and black smear marks off the white walls (as per my mother's yelling) During the night . . . I sit in a depressed heap in the corner of my dark room with the glow from my laptop illuminating my tear-stained face.

I numb the desire with substitution of alcohol or ganga. Seriously, When I'm stuck inside for whatever reasons I go a little, um, fidgety to put it mildly. I need to sedate. But this weekend I get my campus rungs, the last piece in the puzzle to my basement campus board. I'll start next season socially deprived but really strong!

When I can't climb I... ...slackline at the local park (it impresses the locals 8) ). ...do hangs and pull-ups on door frames. ...stare at the sides of buildings and try to figure out of they'd go if I bolted them. ...shimmy up trees and jug around on the branches. ...waste my time on this *** *** website. ...plan climbing trips (J-Tree in winter and an East to West Coast road trip in June). ...look at used car adds because it's hard to go climbing much when you have to rely on other people's wheels. :x ...plan future purchases ("hmm... I'll need to buy another pair of shoes when I send my Miura's in for resoling  ) ...talk like a pirate? :robert:

Go surfing, work, dream about climbing, draw up tick lists for my next day, week, month of climbing, read about climbing, train on my woody in the garage, punch cones, gardening, build something, sulk.

In reply to: During the day . . . I used to be able to make it all the way around the outer wall of my house (inside, of course!) without touching the floor...but had to use my climbing shoes cause some of the edging was pretty tough...That was until my mother replaced my climbing shoes with a note that said I coudln't have them back until I repainted all the trim and walls I destroyed with scuff marks. It was kinda funny in afterthought...she made the note out of letters cut form magazines and newspapers  Ahhhh...to be young again....
