Best Gyms in Country

Hey all! I was just wondering if there was a list of the best gyms in the country. If there isn't, I think we should start one up. It would be based on members input (hopefully everyone will rate the gyms they've been to). With a website of this size, that should be no problem!

I would say no...I've been to many gyms, but the gym I go to regularly is not the best, just the most convenient!!

I agree, my gym WAS pretty cool but it's gone downhill in the past few months.

ibex gym in blue springs missouri is also a good gym to go to nice climbing facility .

all of these gyms have good size wall ranging from 35-45 feet tall.

Believe it or not my gym in KANSAS is pretty sweet I am not for sure what the square footage of climbing is but There is 90 ft. outside routes ranging from 5.5 to 5.12 all leadable and TR accesible also inside , there is tons of bouldering cracks, slab and other great features. Its great! Also i would like to aslo say Ibex is great in KC.

I haven't been to too many gyms, but I'll say IBEX in KC is sweet. I heard it was a million dollar facility and it definitely looks like it.

I live in UTAH, and the gyms here are most often bouldering gyms, with the best being the outragousely, but justified price of the front in Salt lake.

The best gym I have ever been to would be the one near Dallas, unfortunately I can't remember the name, and I can't find it on the web for some reason.

If you ever go to Europe, hit the gym in Amsterdam it is really nice.

the gym near Dallas was probably either Stoneworks (never been there, but it's got some huge silos I hear), Exposure or Summit.. those are both nice gyms, but the only ones I've been to, so I don't know how they compare to other gyms.

CATS gym in Boulder... hands down!!!

2nd place goes to the now defunct Albuquerque Rock Gym. Damn that was quite the facility! Any of you NM people remember Barry and Rita Loucks? Whatever happened to them?

you're probably thinking of exposure, as it bills itself as the "tallest indoor climbing in the world." as darin said, it's old grain silos, with routes up to 110 feet.

the other two in the dallas area are way better for actual bouldering, but they are nothing special.

I don't know about over quality but my favorite gym I've been to is Upper Limits in Il. The routes go up 65ft grain silos. And in the winter they freeze the outside of the building for ice climbing

the vertical edge in durham, n.c. is awesome! they have great boldering on one 12' wide, 10' high, 30 degree overhanging plywood section, with jugs along the top (as long as your feet don't go over the "line") also no loose chalk, also no tickmarks, also no pre-chalking holds, also no taping of bolder problems, also no turning or changing holds, it's great!

Upper Limits in Bloomington, Ill. 60ft silos, 100ft outdoor wall, lots of bouldering and ice climbing in the winter. If I remember right the Discovery channel declared it the best climbing gym in the world. I even think it's pretty fun for a gym.

I like the New Jersey Rock Gym, the bouldering island is the best i've seen, many different angles and Matt Stark is a great problem setter.

Hell ya, the spot is wicked awesome. I was there a few days this summer during a lil roadtrip type thingy. Topouts, wicked cool routes and people pullin hard. Vertical Endeavours in Duluth, MN is pretty kick ass too. Cracks, sweet bouldering area, tons of routes, great leads(thanks to my setting  ). Theyre both definatly worth the money and time and all that jazz.

Hey I'll be moving to Houston in a few weeks. I am looking for a gym...any recommendations?

(I'd love a simulation of the Red River Gorge.)

The best gym that I have ever been two is a small private bouldering gym here in SW Ohio. It is a 12' x 12' room in a rented space w/holds plastered everywhere on all four walls and the ceiling w/ mattresses on the floor. One side is a severe overhang with a loft above it for crashing and for the stereo system. The philosophy of setting there is to periodically stip all holds, wash them, and then put them up more or less randomly. Climbers then develop routes over time and soon there is so much tape up that route finding can be almost overwhelming. Climbing in this gym is total immersion. With no contact to the outside world you completely lose track of time and focus on sending your problems de jour.

I've been to a few gyms on the east coast and in CO. I must say Earth Treks in Maryland has been by far the best. Specially ET in Timonium. With route setters Matt Bosley, Jason Kehl, and Ben Montgomery. There is 1 other setter but I can't think of his name (Brian?). They all set quality routes.
