:D trango makes the new flex cams. i have placed one myself not on route just messing around at the base. i think they are the biggest innovation to the single stem cam yet!!!!!!!! it has about twice the rangeof a camalot. it looks really odd at first .on one side the cams are much higher than the other and the stem is attached to only one of the double axles. they are going to have a new full line of cams the smaller sizes are the new splitters and then at some point they switch to the flex cams. i think they are going to be kind of exspensive but they are really nice.trango is really comming out with some innovative stuff lately!! they have a new belay device that is really cool also. the device cams the rope between it and the biner. then for sport they have the squid and then they are coming out with a neew self locking device that is much smaller than a gri-gri. two big fred flinstone thumbs up from me thats for sure on the new cams.

Puppychow, either you are mistaken and the cams are not made by Trango but rather made by someone else or you are on crack. Trango makes no cam like the one you describe. See link. I have "FlexCams" by Trango and they are great. there are a couple other threads around here about them. If there really is something called Flexocam I have never heard or seen it. -n http://www.trango.com/showitem.cfm?catnum=23&itemnum=148

You guys, The pup is right. I have been carrying around the new cam for a few weeks so there have been reported sightings in the 'Gunks, the 'Daks, Eldo, Boulder Canyon and Little Rock City. We've licensed the MaxCam from a guy named Max, and it has 2:1 expansion ratio, thus the name MaxCam. The MaxCam achieves the large expension ratio by floating 2 of the cams on axles attached to the other 2 cams. That's right, it's got 3 axles!!! It'll be assembled on a single stem with a doubled sling like the FlexCams are. Target delivery date is Spring '04. Climb Safe, Mal

Found it. And if you're bored, go to the Jardine patent and click on "Referenced By". Lotta neat stuff out there. http://patimg1.uspto.gov/.piw?docid=US005860629&SectionNum=2&IDKey=EF6B63D1D064&HomeUrl=http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2%2526Sect2=HITOFF%2526p=1%2526u=/netahtml/search-adv.htm%2526r=8%2526f=G%2526l=50%2526d=CR80%2526S1=4,184,657.UREF.%2526OS=ref/4,184,657%2526RS=REF/4,184,657

Dang, I had an idea for how to do that 2 years ago. guess that is what I get for going climbing instead of working on patents and production. Sounds like a good idea though.

That's pretty cool. They look like they could be really sweet. I'd still like to play with them before I'd buy them though.

Certainly looks interesting too... I would be very interested in seeing a prototype. It would seem that there would be a large amount of applied force that is not perpendicular to the axles. With the first axle (attached to the stem) this would attempt to bend the axle, with a fair amount of leverage. Also, with the second, and third, axles being attached to a cam lobe directly, it would seem that it is expecting the aluminum to withstand alot (as the resultant force is again applied not perpendicular to the axle). Just some thoughts. Very curious to see in action, and perhaps see some test results.

I'm not knock'n 'em, but camalots weigh about 10-20% more because of their dual axle design. Sure, you get a better range of placements out of a single cam (and that's why I carry them), but you still need to have the same number of cams unless you intend to run it out - which makes your rack heavier. So, out of curiousity, how much more do these new MaxCams weigh? Brian

Interesting reading those patents... There's a citation for a nuclear reactor latching device in the camalot patent. Hmmm..... Brian
