Under Armor

I help coach our school football team. The players are wearing the Under Armor gear, which goes underneath the pads and uniforms. The kids rave about how warm and lightweight the stuff is. I "borrowed" a pair from the equipment room and I must say it rocks. It's really lightweight, breathable, and warm. I've got capilene underwear and this stuff beats it hands down. It's pretty cheap in sporting goods stores. Check it out.

I climb with a couple of guys who wear this stuff, I know it's big with the football guys.

I don't know much about it either. Anyone know how it is in extreme weather?

I use under armor exclusively a primary layer. Lasts forever. wicks like a shamy. breaths extremly well... and feels like silk. I cant say enough good things about it (other then the ads on TV grate me). I think why it works so well is because it pulls so much moisture away from the body and helps other layers do their job. I have used it with great success on a number of -20F days in the mountains.

Hilarious. Under Armour was developed for lacrosse a few years ago. I had some as I was a goalie and it never occured to me to use it for climbing, and now I see it in the shops sometimes. Heh!

I have a shirt and it's great though I use it at the gym and not climbing. It looks shiny..think 80's lycra though they have a few types out there.

I'm a Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment and just started climbing but i know a little on the subject because i use the stuff for work. i have used it here in the state for everything from airborne jumps to training in the woods and i have also used it over seas in the desert during training in sandstorms and the stuff is outstanding.

I used to work at a sporting goods store that sold it and we couldn't keep it in stock, so I decided I'd try it. In terms of climbing I highly recommend it for those early spring morning climbs when the sun is out but there is a cold breeze. The cold weather gear does an amazing job of stopping wind as well as all the other stuff that people have already mentioned. I also use it for my first layer when I snowboard and it works better than anything else I've used.

I have a red short-sleeved one I use for baseball, which later doubled as a cycling jersey since I have no money to buy a real one.

Add paddling and photography on to the cycling and climbing and you'll start to see my pain. It all adds up real fast.

No doubt. The key to expense managment is to just rotate the activities. For instance I held off on a new kayak for the last 2 years and so I just got to buy a new digital camera. I'm currently selling my CX and road bikes so I can afford some alpine touring ski gear. I want to buy some new crampons (the G14's) for the ice season but I have no idea how I'll get the money. Maybe sell a guitar or an old camera. Anybody want to buy a Strat or some Nikon gear?

i just picked up the pants and a long sleeve shirt. i was in the market for new long johns but i decided i've give this a try and it is so good. i got the "turfgear" shirt (whatever that means) and i think i'll go back and pick up a coldgear one to match my pants for those cold days. they seem to be mutch better than long johns, and i don't expect to buy anything else for my first layer again. unfortunately, the shirt is uber tight so i don't really want to be seen wearing just it if it gets too hot out....
