So i got the the gym with my sister to do some climbing. Shes never actually done it before but she likes to tag along. For the first time yesterday she decided to climb with me. So we used the auto belays. Anyway after i get the harness on her and what not she says she wants try the hard rock, which is a 5.8 and i tell her that it might be too hard for her and maybe she should try something a little easier. she then proceeds to send it. I was amazed, happy, confused, and a million other emotions. So she gets off the belay and i go for it, but i fell off three times! now i've sent this wall a bunch of times and for some strange reason i could not climb it for the life of me. My sister then sends it twice more before i did........amazing

Why is that humiliating? That's one of the things I like about climbing. Competition is pointless. There will *always* be people who are better and worse than you. Even if you're "the best", you're never the best at all aspects of climbing.
Just get comfortable with the fact that we're all somewhere in a very large middle.
And congrats to your sister. Sounds like she's off to a good start.

That's awesome! It would have been worse if she had fallen the whole way up because then she might have hated climbing. This way she was introduced in a positive way, and now you get some bonding time with your sis while you climb. That's pretty cool!

So your pride is hurt a little... no big deal. Chalk it up to a learning experience. How long have you been climbing? No matter what your climbing limit, there will be people newer to climbing than you who can climb harder. I find I get more out of climbing if I drop the competitive bit. Just have fun, and be happy that you can spend time with your sis.

It's no big deal, really! Some things, it'd matter. Like, for example, if his sister was better at getting dates. With girls. Now *that* would be something worth being humiliated over.

how do we KNOW that his sis isnt better at getting dates with girls?
anyway, its not humiliating...sometimes all i can climb with is my sis, and it sux cause she isnt that into climbing...be glad yours is!!
