she wants try the hard rock, which is a 5.8

The only one that should be humiliated in this scenario is the owner of the gym. The hardest route in the gym is a 5.8?

Spraying is lame, and I won't give you cred for it. I notice that you cracked the dictionary this time though, and didn't even feel the need to tell us all about it. Congrats!

Alright man, I honestly apologize for ribbing on your spelling. Mostly. That one post was pretty hard to read, but I was kind of an a$$ after that. Seriously though, in terms of sportsmanship -

A good sport understands that a game is just that - a game. Climbing, while not a "contest" like soccer or baseball, is about having fun. Who cares if your sister whipped you once? And who cares what grade you climb? None of us do, just as you shouldn't care what grade we climb. You sent harder than you had before? Congrats. People, myself included, will sometimes call you a gymrat or other things like that. If you're having a good time at the gym, screw anyone who talks sh!t, even if it's me, as long as you're having fun. Now get out and send.

Edited to note that there are times of the year (cough*winter*cough) when I could also fairly be accused of gymratness.

I don't know why people take this site so seriously. Your sister can most likely outclimb me, too, if that makes you feel better.

And everybody's better at getting dates with girls than I am.

Not a climbing story, so feel free to skip over the post...

About 7 years ago, I went to play a quick round of golf before work that evening. As I was alone, I got paired with another single golfer... she was 16, a high-school student, and had lost her left leg in a car accident.

However, she had amazing control over the golf ball. She could hit it within 3 or 4 yards of where she wanted, each time, every time.

So I got to work, and the guys asked me "How was the golf game today?"

I had to sheepishly admit that I got beat by a 16 year old girl with one leg.

Competition is healthy at times, but don't let it get to ya... enjoy the sport for what it is: Fun.

Damn right! Take your sister outdoors and hand her the rack. Then say something dripping with wisdom like, "OK smartass, you're up."

you bethcha!
There are many gym rats that soil themsleves outdoors! Thanks to the 100 years of experience of my old school teachers that I climb harder outdoors!

My advice is to get over it and climb something hard outdoors like a 5.11 offwidth. That'll show her!

I got the worst. This is when I was jsut getting saerious about it. I got up this one wall, which was quite easy, yet difficult. All of a sudden, this girl with a broken leg just jets up the wall about three trimes faster than me! I was like OMG! What the crap! it was humilating

the guy who introduced me to climbing was really really competitive and always beat me. After a year I began to keep up with him and after about 18 months got better (damn is was good when you were 16 years old and could improve that quickly!). He started to get really pissy and one day admitted I was better than him. I denied it because I know it would piss him off, but after that he never climbed again.

I caught up with him about 8 years later and he was really fat and lazy and so was his girlfriend (not to mention her facial hair... urgh) and I'm still climbing and loving it, uncompetitively, more than ever.

so the moral of the story is that if you like climbing then do it, and if someone's better or worse than you then it doesn't matter. otherwise you'll end up with beard rash from your girlfriend (or something comparitively bad from a boyfriend). :D

The same thing happened to me,

I brought my bro climbing and i kicked his butt for the past 2 months after that he learnt quick and begin to kick my butt back. Talk about humiliation, But I still climb now, we're both always trying to better each other. Win some lose some is the comment now. But i will never give up climbing even though i sux at it coz if we did, none of us will be climbing ! ROCK ON ! guys !

ps: 5.8 is a real humuliation. 5.8 is the easiest grade in my gym. All newbies go for 5.8 ..... hehehehe but don't give up ! win some lose some !

5.8... cant remember the last time i fell on one, usually dont try them either, maybe for fun or a long endurance route. Keep trying maybe it was a mental block.
