I'm just getting into ice and alpine climbing and was wondering what are some general maintenence and storage tips. Do you meticulously disassemble your crampons, cleaning and oiling every piece or just give 'er a wipedown? Things of that nature. Thanks.

let 'em dry out and spray 'em with wd-40. that's about it. :D

Usually, I just make sure they're dry before putting the rubber point protectors back on. Just leave them somewhere warm and dry for a day or two. If they're really dirty, I'll give a wash down and then leave them to dry.

Just let them dry for a day or two. Then knock off any dirt and junk with a stiff bristled brusk. Sharpen as needed and hit them with some WD-40 or wipe them down with 3-in-One oil. Store them in a place that doesn't get to moist. This is what I do. Good luck and have fun.

Last time I observed George's *ahem* man-servants doing crampon fix 'em up, he was super gluing his broken bailing plates. By the way, do you refer to your own two hands and your man-servants? I guess one could call them that.

I only do that with my firearms 8)
There is a product called LPS #3 that is like Cosmolline in a spray can that's great for between seasons storage of anything that rusts. You can get it at industrial hardware supply places.
