toothbrushes are good for one thing...that is getting the grime out of the hand and footholds so you dont slip and die. dont bring it to the gym though, its kinda an outdoor thing and if you keep it in your chalkbag you will eventually fall on it and it will stick you in the back (I'm speaking from personal experience) and...ow. Its best to keep it in a baggy or something and leave it on the ground. ------------------------------- SEND!!!! OOWWWW!!!!!!!!

Toothbrushes blow! I have a mini wire brush that works great. It is really good greasy chalk covered holds. Especially those slippery grimey plastic things at the gyms.

http://www.mec.ca/...&bmUID=1073616005347 a buddy of mine had one of these and it was pretty damn good...... here's the catch though. it cost's five bucks from MEC but apparently all it is is a brush that's used to clean guns.... not sure what kind, but guns none the less and can be bought at a gun store for like $0.50 each.... got this info from a guy who worked at MEC so I'm calling it reliable information.

I hope this is a troll. Doesn't matter about the replaceable plastic, but Using WIRE Brushes on Real Rock will permanently polish the rock. Better to stick with ORAL-B or Reach.

hay please.once again. cost effectiveness..try walmart for the big 'ol denture brush. Works like a charm at 2. 99..It's a "baaaagan!" If you want to get all spiffy, try the kiddies toothbrush, like a Barbie for kicks. Definitely a conversation piece!

Golf club cleaners are great. I picked one up a dicks sporting goods. It has a wire brush on one side and a plastic brush on the other. The wire brush is great for old greasy holds or holds that have been spray painted. While the pastic side is great for chalk, and dirt any were a wire brush may damage to the rock. The brush I got had a clip, but it broke. Pat

It's a ripoff of the Metolious boulder brush or maybe Metolious copied them. It was used to clean M16s. I have one but haven't used it yet. I also use a denture brush, it's big and firm and works wonders on indoor and outdoor holds. They are nessecary. I carry it in the loop in my chalkbag all the time.

Use one of those denture brushes for cleaning rock. Also, most people dont know this, but you can actually use a brush to clean off all your chalk after you redpoint a route.

I would agree, that would include all the damn tickmarks too. I have my brush attached to a piece of cord and a mini biner. It doesn't poke you that way. Also keep the wire brushes off established routes. They polish the holds.

I have a grout brush that I like to use, it has stiff nylon bristles, and they are long and angled so they can get into incut holds. I have a piece of cording on it so I can carry it easily. Plus I have the stiffest bristle I could find toothbrush too.

Wire brushes scar plastic pretty badly, too. Sure, the holds are replacable. But the staff of your local gym will not likely be too pleased. Anyhow, agreed. Wire brushes should not be used.

You are talking about the rifle cleaning kits that you carry in the buttstock of your M-16... you can prolly get em at a surplus store for like a dollar. I have a few left over from my days of "rifle cleaning".
