So I have a few good friends who can get the gumption up to climb now and then, but I need a little more reliability. I guess I got a little too involved in this whole thing, maybe because I'm from Arizona and there's these mind bending piles of rock everywhere you look down there. I go to the Vertical Endeavors in Warrenville as much as I can. The weekday drive after five sucks from the city, and on weekends the gym is a sea of suburban moms and their greasy herdlings. I'll keep going there anyway, since it's the best I've found around and I already bought the year. Anybody out there feel the way I do? PM me and let's work it out regular.

Hey my workout and budget usually entails me climbing at VE twice a week or so, I usually never have a partner to lead belay me though so if you are up for some lead climbing I should be up there on tuesday around 1630. Bouldering is alright also, maybe top rope but I really need a lead partner.

there is usually a core group of people there during the middle of the week. most of them live around the area. i on the other hand live north of the city, but somehow i make the trip out to ve at least three times a week. although the drive stinks most of the time, climbing there with friends for the rest of the night makes up for the traffic.

You need to quit whining and get your butt up to Devil's Lake (or Southern Illinois) every weekend and do some real climbing!!!

In reply to: You need to quit whining and get your butt up to Devil's Lake (or Southern Illinois) every weekend and do some real climbing!!! Although you spent your time climbing at DL, I'm sure you didn't frequently climb in JANUARY OR FEBRUARY. Of course, climbing in Mexico, you can do that any time of the year.

You are right. Climbing trips to Devil's Lake were few and far between in the winter (once a month or so) and almost always ended in a lot of pain. Since we didn't have climbing gyms back then I spent a lot of time x-country skiing and doing pull-ups on my doorjamb.
