boy did i screw up

I tried to cleanse my shoes of odor and ended up with a slime/sweat problem in the toes of my shoes. Now I can't slimb for long without my shoes getting slippery on the INSIDE.

Right now i've been packing them with a baking soda/chalk combination and scratching the insid with a scouring brush...any ideas on what might help without destroying my shoes even more?

Well, im considering that this slime is a base. Counteract it with an acid, a light acid not strong because i dont want you to ruin your shoe. Draino or some type of plumbers declogger (i dont know the name of the stuff) might work. Squirt some in there, not alot and quickly rub your fingers or a scour brush on the inside and wash it out with water. Make sure you wear gloves. Now, this is just a theory so...do this on ur own risk

Now that ive scared u lol....good luck

If Miagi's right, you could also try orange juice - that's acidic and you might have that just lying around.

OJ also degreases bike chains alright if you're in a pinch...

Most drain openers are highly alkaline, or basic. The usual active ingredient is sodium hydroxide (NAOH).

I'd go with the idea of using citrus or vinegar. Orange juice has too much sugar, though. Try the bottled lemon juice. There is almost no sugar in it (probably almost no lemon juice!). White vinegar would probably be even better. As a plus, acids tend to neutralize the alkaline human sweat to reduce the Foul Factor. As an aside, women's sweat is more acidic. Manly-Men's sweat is more alkaline and more conducive to bacterial growth, and hence, they stink more than women. And you thought it was because you worked harder at your climbing and sweated more.
