I have always been partial to movie that make you think. Unexpected twists, turns, and plots that weren't scripted around large explosions have always appealed to me. Movies that pulled the heart strings, and those that made up feel like you were the kid that always got picked on. I'll list some of my favorite, then follow it up with some of your own please! I need ideas next time I am at the video store! Now I am not saying that all of the below movies are the "best ever" but rather ones I enjoyed. -Fight Club -Memento -Vanlla Sky -Chocolat -Pulp Fiction -Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels -Rainbow and the Serpent -Band of Brothers (series) -Forest Gump -The Sting -Presumed Innocent -Platoon -LA Confidential -Beautiful Mind -Usual Suspects That should get it going. Feel free to pop in any comments you have as well!

I second: American History X Momento Would add: Bowling for Columbine Though liberally slanted, brings out a bunch of facts I never knew happened in recent US history. And brings about crazy statistics but also has some humor. Really emotional movie to watch, but worth it.

I second a lot of them too, but add "Solaris" and a collection of music videos my wife just turned me on to. They were all directed either by Michel Gondry or Spike Jonze.
