I assume from your title you are looking for gear suggestions. The list can be long, but not as long as aid climbing. What do you have now. give me a place to start.

It took me a couple of days, but it was more of an endurance route than power. Matt

In reply to: It took me a couple of days, but it was more of an endurance route than power. Matt If you are climbing 5.13 and you are 12, I would skip the gear and stick to sport and bouldering. That way you can get a bunch of sponsorships, and get free gear and a load of cash. When you are old (like 23) you can retire and start trad climbing.

FInd a good trad climber. Be nice to them. Climb with them. Make sure they really know what they are doing, bad experience and luck is not the same as good experience.

I got a dictionary and just don't have a clue, of course that could be becasue I'm old. Oh, I got it, "recommend". Never mind. I'm just another lost soul withering away on the internet because it's too cold to climb. Time to go look at the photo's again and change my wallpaper. ---Escale

Find someone who is an experienced trad climber and spend some time with them. Don't be hasty... you are only 12 and have your entire life to kill yourself. Also, if you really are 12 and sending 13's, you still might as well try out the cracks. There are fewer hard trad climbers than sport. Also, I find it ironic that escale's signature starts out, "before you criticize someone...", yet it comes at the bottom of a critical post. Hypocrisy is funny.

Old son, we kill trolls like you on sight over at rec.climbing. You couldn't hack it in an unmoderated forum. DMT

I don’t believe you posted a question, but I thought it was funny anyway. I try to lean towards humor, but I don’t profess to be a professional at it. You need to read more of my forum comments. I never criticize anyone. There is too much of that here. I am too much of a free soul. It would hurt me to hurt anyone. I just kept reading and rereading this thread and I could not figure out what that word was. Everyone else seemed to know exactly what he meant, and I was truly lost. Right at the last second I figured it out. Recommend was the word this young teenager was looking for. It is hard to understand what people are writing about when they misspell words, but I don’t criticize them for it. Many of the writers here use English as a second language and I’m ok with that. Once I figured it out, I just tried to excuse my slow ignorance in not being able to see it so quickly. It had nothing to do with his post. I thought it was funny that it took me so long to figure it out and thought I would share that in a shameless bumb. And I agree with you, at his age he should be having fun. At that age he is still growing and will develop iron tendons. He should find an experience climber who can “show him the ropes” as it were and gain experience carefully and slowly. If he is climbing .13’s at age 12, then he potentially could become awesome. I wouldn’t want him to feel discouraged because other climbers are so critical here. BTW, my signature is meant to be sarcastically funny. Here are a few more: People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realize how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world. (Calvin from Calvin And Hobbs) "There is one thing I would break up over and that is if she caught me with another woman. I wouldn't stand for that." Steve Martin. "Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays." Henry Youngman. Am I a troll? --- Escale
