Is there any way of telling whether or not the bolts are safe to cimb on? Who knows how long they've been there and what kind of falls they've taken. Not to mention the biners on top to repel down. How do we know it's safe?

No one can ever know. Ive acquired this knowledge from the learning tool of time. From posts and my knowledge I know this: 1.If the rock around the bolt is crumbling or looks like its eroding, dont use the bolt. 2. There is no way to "test" a bolt. Never tap or pull on it. The only thing your doing is weakening it. 3. If a bolt is rusted or corroded, dont use it. 4. If the hanger on a bolt spins freely, dont use it. 5. Dont trust 1/4" bolts. They are too weak. 6. Dont use bolts that are not bolted to a flat surface. 7. Dont use bolts that are poorly placed on weak rock, such as flakes. There might be more, but this is what i can come up with off the top.

Dylan, This has been discussed here before. Here's one thread... An expert opinion on bolts..." Please search the Forums to see if it has been discussed before, as this saves people from having to answer questions more than once. Thanx, ~Adam
