also see if you can rig a top rope from a neigbouring route. you can then rappel from that route (if its not too far) and recover your gear.

Rap rings are handy and save a lot of worrying friction if you have to leave webbing.

I've used the method in the link that cantbuymefriends suggested a couple of times. It works very well. Hint though I mark the strand of the rope that I need to pull with an extra quick draw, this is importat as pulling the wrong rope could lend you in deeper $^^&t by geting the rope stuck there.

damn i thought this was going to be a twelve step program to help me with my obsession of needing to have more gear. I was dreaming of the day when my paycheck would survive the transition from employer to bank.
Alas it is no such thing and i would comment on it, but the new mountain gear catalog is distracting me.

Serious question: why not just use a couple cheapo bail biners?

'that'

Used to refer to the one designated, implied, mentioned, or understood: What kind of soup is 'that'?

Used to refer to the one, thing, or type specified as follows: The relics found were those of an earlier time.

Used to refer to the event, action, or time just mentioned: After 'that', he became a recluse.

The trick at the bottom of this page, called the "Texas Rope Trick", is exactly what you're looking for, I think. Might do a search for it here and find more info if you're interested. :)
