I've been to both. In my opinion, NJRG is much better. Diamond rock gym is actually just one wall in the back of a gymnasium/kids play-party warehouse. It's a "textured" wall with a couple of routes where you can climb only using cracks or aretes. It is all top rope only. It's my opinion that a lot of the routes at Diamond are lacking in imagination. Reach up, grab hold, lift feet, repeat. NJRG has more routes and features, and is a "climbing dedicated" facility. You can top rope, lead climb and boulder there. NJRG has a lot of bouldering problems, with a huge "boulder" in the middle of the gym as well as a tunnel/ceiling/incling bouldering in the back. The routes at NJRG tend to have more though in them as well, as they make you think quite a bit more and work technique.

BTW, if you're looking for a climbing partner at NJRG, shoot me a PM. My GF and I and a group of friends are there at least once every week.

I frequent NJRG and many in the NYC/LI area. NJRG is by far my favorite. Very good gym, just wish I was closer to it! Never been to Diamond Rock, though by the description of it, NJRG will show you a better time.

Yes, New Jersey Rock Gym is nice. And, if you wanna go for a drive, check out Rockville in Hamilton, NJ. (Mercer County in central NJ)

In reply to: Hey, does the name Dave ring a bell to you littlegeenrubberman? Nope, but I'm not on a first name basis with everyone there. If you're ever looking for a belay partner (lead certified too) give me a yell.

Hey everyone, I just moved back to NJ for the summer and was looking to find out who is doing some climbing around here. Although I live right down the street from the NJRG, Im addicted to the real rock and cant wait to get back on it. Give me a holler if your in the area, Id love to hear from everyone motivated to get some climbing done this summer. Jeff

Hey Jeff, I'll PM (private message) ya my email. We're at the Rock Gym about twice a week now, and we're itching for our first climb of the season at the Gunks/Peterskill/Alamuchy.

I actually just moved back to New Jersey after living in NYC for four years. I just recently started rock climbing--in March, and I really would like to continue. I have visited the New Jersey Rock Gym, and was wondering if there would be anyone who needed a partner on weeknights or on the weekends. Shoot me a reply if that works for anyone. Thanks!
