i'm not picking on you! just trying to get you to think about a few more things when selecting a college. i didn't really have the luxury to plan ahead. or plan, period.

I'm looking at NC State, not too terribly far from climbing. If you want a more outdoorsy atmosphere, go with App State. The Bouldering of Boone is wide open to you.

Good ol' University of South Carolina! Our school climbing wall isn't too great, but it can keep you entertained. We do have a nice gym down the road though. Oh yeah, i'm a long-term freshman

Texas A&M has a great outdoor ed program, they are closing the major, but you could still get your minor, and we aren't too far from some decent climbing

In reply to: Clemson's got USC beat. if you want to be around trash that thinks they will be something some day, go to clemson. if you want to be around VERY intellegent business majors, go to USC. the Moore School Of Business at USC is known to be one of the best in the COUNTRY. got to give clemson props for their engineering programs.

MARYVILLE!!! I'm from Maryville, but do not attend there. I have lots of friends there. Great school...a little expensive for my wallet, but if you can afford it... Maryville is a cool college town, close to Knoxville, next door to the Smokies. Lots of climbing, hiking, and outdoor stuff. I had a friend in the Outdoor Rec Program (don't know if he is still there). Definitely check it out! Let me know if I can help!!! Good luck and God bless. :D

Maryville is very laid back and down to earth... Go Scots!! :)

In reply to: In reply to: I'm gonna major/minor in outdoor rec and entrepernuership! you may be in for a surprise. let me just make a suggestion.. major in something that will make you marketable should you decide not to - or find yourself unable to - start your own outfitters (you don't need to show anyone a degree to start your own outfitting business) I agree with this. Only like 5% of all small businesses make it for more than 5-10 years anyways. However, if you're getting into the guiding aspect, we have a Leisure Major at Oklahoma State and our outdoor rec. program, called Outdoor Adventure is great. I'm going to start guiding for them in a couple of months. Either way, you should do what you're good at, 'cause it sounds like a small business, guiding or both is what you want to do and you're not going to make much money in either regardless of whether or not you make it. Good luck and if you've got questions about OSU, pm me. :D

I went to the University of Texas. Not ideally located for climbing. Great place to go to school otherwise though.

if you major in outdoor education you have to get a teaching degree that s why i decided to major in oe instead of outdoor rec. with an oe you can either work at a camp or for grouphomes , but you can also be a mountainguide or a climbing ranger so you have a lot of different options and a lot of things to fall back on
