Since it is apparent to all that these guys love each other's company, they have decided to summit K2 together. Please keep us posted guys, and don't kill each other if you have a spat or two.

Actually, I summited K2 while he was doing my girlfriend. That's what started this mess. Hard to believe I summited in only 5 minutes. She was a b**ch anyway.

In reply to: In case you don't speak espanol, chupa translates in English to "suck". Actually, chupar means "to suck". If you're going to be pedantic, then get it right! Trying to sound smart and looking stupid just furthers the case for the latter. I'm not sure, but I think chupa translates into "you suck", which would make it a pretty funny screen name.

In reply to: I'm not sure, but I think chupa translates into "you suck", which would make it a pretty funny screen name. Close, but it's conjugated into the third person. "S/he sucks." The "you" conjugation would be "chupas." If I recall, you'd want to add a definate article in front of it to make a direct "you suck," such as, "ˇTe chupas!" though the "you" is implied by the conjugation. Then again, it's been a few years since I've taken any spanish.

I suppose these sorts of things are pretty regional, but nobody where I'm from ever uses the verb 'chupar' to mean anything like 'you suck', or 'that sucks', etc. In general, 'chupar' is not particularly vulgar, although it can be used in vulgar contexts, such as in 'suck my ...' (I gotta watch what I say here in spanish, because my wife sometimes reads these posts). As another example, the word for pacifier is 'chupete' (get it?). Once again: I don't know if this is regional or universal. There are several hilarious examples where verbs which are perfectly acceptable in Spain have humorously vulgar meanings in Argentina. The verb 'coger' is a great example: in Spain 'coger' is used to mean 'to take', for example as when one takes a taxi. In Argentina it means to fuk, in the vulgar sense of the word, o sea no quiere coger un taxi en Argentina. Anyways, if someone has the nickname 'chupa' what that seems to say to me is that that person really likes to suck on stuff. WHAT they like to suck on, personally I'd rather not know.

But couldn't "chupa" be used for second-person imperative? As in, "hey you, suck this!"? ah, the Spanish: they have a word for everything.

In reply to: But couldn't "chupa" be used for second-person imperative? As in, "hey you, suck this!"? ah, the Spanish: they have a word for everything. Yikes, spanish lesson time ... The acceptable conjugation may even be regional, but it seems to me the best translation in Argentina would be suck this ... chupale (could also mean suck yourself) suck me ... chupame suck yourself ... chupate What is lacking in the name chupa is the direction of the action. For this reason it sounds more like the person with the nickname is the one who likes to suck.
