Alright, one of my best friends has been diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis. Its a generic disease that causes tumors to grow on your internal organs. Only 50,000 people have been diagnosed, so the goverment doesnt give reasearchers a lot of money to support research, therefor they havent found a cure... Well we are doing a Step Forward walk to raise money for the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. I was thinking about having a Climbing Event to help sponser our walk... We need money... lots of it... I cant afford to see such a great friend lose her life just because we cant get enough money to support research... So what I'm asking is for anyone that is interested in helping with anytihng: donating food, money, etc, or is interested in helping me organize maybe a climbing comp or event, please PM me.... Thank you so much!

btw this would most likely be in eastern TN,

Sorry to hear about it
I think that climbers in general try to help other climbers out , climbers are part of a family and when one person feels pain or needs help we should
be there to help out and do what we can. I dont really know what ican do to help but let me know and iwll try

prayin for ya

Hi.

A good way to increase donations would be to set up a paypal account for your friend's research fund. That way people can donate directly to the account over the 'net. Registration is a very simple process, and I bet you could get more money this way.

Good Luck,

I have two friends (twins) that were diagnosed with TS at a young age. So far they are both doing fine. One has a benign tumor in her head, the other might have a new tumor forming, and I haven't heard more news about it yet. It's tough because no one can know when their health might suddenly be seriously affected, and they both decided to not have children because it can be transfered to offspring.

I'm glad to see that you are willing to help your friend and the TS Alliance. This is an important cause, which hits close to home for me as well. Good luck with the event and fund raiser!

Follow the link below to set up a paypal account. You should be able to call it "Jane Doe's Research Fund" or whatever. You are going to need a valid credit card or checking account to recieve the funds that people donate. You could either set up a new account for this (which would be the most convenient) or just have the funds sent to your account, from where you can pass them along to your friend.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me. And remember to let everybody know when you get it set up.

i am pretty sure that paypal has some kind of insurance and some pretty solid security against hacks, since they transfer millions of dollars throught their services.

let me know if red bull gets back to you, or any other sponsors, i would be willing to help with promotion or anything like that.

If someone wants to make a donation online, they can go to the website, www.tsalliance.org. Click on the "ways to Give" in the left hand corner. Scroll down until you come to STEP FOWARD Walk-A-Thons. Click on this and fill out all the necessary fields. On the second page in the comments section write "Melissa Robertson, Crossville, TN Walk-A-Thon"...

I hope this is want you meant... Thanks everyone!
