Sweet, looks great. What is under him, is it a cave?? Or are their some bouldering problems their, I can't tell from the video?? P.S Not trying to belittle the climb, it was awesome, just curious

You should let us know ahead of time how large this vid is - not that i'm complaining, but after 5 solid minutes @213kB/s on a cable modem, I begin to worry for the dialup users. Fast server though. I'll post the size once it finishes.

I was in Arco about two years ago and looked at that route. The cave he is climbing in was carved out by mining and they left pillars of limestone supporting the cliff above it. Most of the other routes start outside the cave and continue up the cliff above it. Thomas is a tall guy and he made some of those reaches look big...

what a stud. that no hands rest was neat to see. about halfway through, there seemed to be some rope management issues. any idea what that was?

I personally like the upside down rest in the middle of the climb. I would bust my arss if I tried that and blow the redpoint knowing my luck

Wow. Worth the wait. What's up with the wrapping the rope around his arm on the 2nd clip? Is that a conventional technique?

I think he changed ropes, because his first was not long enough? Thats all that I could gather, pretty cool climb!

What he does is pull some slack into the system (while off belay) and lower a loop of rope from below his last draw down to his belayer who then puts him back on. Basically, it allows him to be protected for the first section and then finish the climb without having to deal with the rope drag from those initial clips. The only danger is if he bails while hanging from that rest in which case he's going to deck. While not having used the technique myself it appears that he wraps his arm around the rope (at the fourth clip) as an easier way to ensure that he grabs the rope without having to really concentrate on grabbing it. By letting his arm fall back until it hits rope, he then just has to twist it around once to have it in his hands for clipping. Saves having to reach back and scoop it up... looked like more of a style thing than anything else really.

In reply to: I think he changed ropes, because his first was not long enough? Thats all that I could gather, pretty cool climb! that's what i was thinking...maybe the change in angle right after the switch would've made rope drag awful...

Holy shit. I can't even relate to that level of climbing. So much more powerful to watch a video rather than one photo of someone at a crux. Thanks for the stoke.
