The Wichitas do have great climbing, but do not allow alcohol, however the campground at lake lawtonka does, so i suggest camping there. If your wanting to go climb this weekend, Ill be there Sunday morning with some others. Ive just started leading and am trying all the easy 5.5-6 routes in the refuge to start with. I do like to top rope so we can also set up some lines. Just depends on what we want to do. There are some bolted climbs around the refuge, but you have to know where to look. If you want to meet me down there pm me

The climbing here is good. I think the Bouldering is better than anything else, though. Before you leave, be sure to head north east to the Tulsa area. Bring your beer.

In reply to: The climbing here is good. I think the Bouldering is better than anything else, though. Before you leave, be sure to head north east to the Tulsa area. Bring your beer. Couldn't be more misleading! You must be talking about just the Northeastern part of Oklahoma! In the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, the bouldering is really not that good. We have just a few developed boulders, namely the Steak Dinner area and the area near the Boulder Study Area. There's probably less than 20 problems at each area. There's more at Quartz Mtn but still not that much. Although there is potential, the bouldering will probably never be as good as the roped climbing. Main reason is that most of the overhanging rock in the Wichitas tends to be pretty crappy and decomposing. Now, the roped climbing is awesome in the Wichitas with many different types of climbs. Although many of the routes are trad and/or scary, the people who spend the time to learn how to climb here usually love it. There are hundreds of climbs here already and new route possibilities are everywhere.

First of all sorry about my bad spelling of Wichita. Not from around here and did not proof read :? That was my mistake, the second mistake was the beer comment. I know that there is no alcohol allowed in the Wildlife area, I was talking afterwards back in the great town of Lawton :D Second I want to thank you all for the information and hope to see you all on the rock sometime, whether it is here or some other place in Oklahoma. Thanks again and if anyone is in the area drop me an email. Scott
