I agree, don't get me wrong.... but when he starts setting speed records on El Cap, then he's the man. Just my point of view. [ This Message was edited by: melonhead on 2002-05-01 12:06 ]

Screw this celebrity worship thing. Instead of thinking about other climbers, go out and DO IT YOURSELF!!! Get your own ticklist going, full of buildering problems, doorjam traverses, 4th class approaches, whatever you're into. yeah.

The ability to recognize that Dean Potter really is god, has never got in the way of setting my own humble goals of knocking off hard, exposed 5.10ish trad routes in the Needles and elsewhere. Role models are good to have. I would like to climb like Dean. I can't, partly because I have a job, and partly because I have a fear gland somewhere that refuses to shut off on command. But he is the living embodiment of all that I respect and strive for in climibng. A little hero worship every now and then never hurt anyone. nb. when I see the phrase 'Big D' in the context of hero worship, I naturally think of the 6'6" Dean Potter, rather than that skinny guy from NH with the hooks for fingers. What's wrong with admiring a guy whose good at what he does? We all look up to someone.

There isn't anything wrong with admiring someone that has achieved a high level of accomplishment in a given area. I think camhead was just saying that he feels some people take it to far. There is a difference between admiration and hero worship.

Dave Graham is da mad bomb, but that's so reason to say that someone elses opinion is wrong and that they're a terrible person for thinking that. No hard feelings I like pie Adam
