Thinking about hitting a climbing gym Labor day weekend. May go to either Vertical Endeavors or Prairie Walls in Rochester. Can you climb at these gyms alone or do you need a partner to belay with you. I believe VE has a few autobelays? Does Praire Walls have any? Any advice from those who have been to these places?? 8^)

VE has autobelays, never been to Prairie Walls but have heard it's awesome....

Keep in mind VE is undergoing a significant remodel / expansion (sweet!!). You can still climb, it's just a bit chaotic. I think they're hoping for a September "re"opening. Check their website (www.verticalendeavors.com -- sorry, no link, digitally challenged) for more info, or give them a call!

Forget about auto-belays. There is going to be way too many people on them, especially if they have the new ones installed. Chances are a partner shoul'nt be too hard to find. VE will probably be busier than a pair of pink flannel tights!

Prairie Walls doesn't have any autobelays....so unless you meet up with someone that day in the gym roped climbing may not be an option. BUT.....PW has the best bouldering of any gym that I've ever climbed in!!! You can easily spend the day there by yourself bouldering on some wicked problems.
And...the staff is super friendly...as I'm one of them.....haha :)

Prairie Walls sound great. I think I will check it out, and maybe go to VE later in the fall when the remodel is finished. Thanks for the info.

check out P.J. Asch in Stillwater. No autobelayes, but great bouldering routes, and other routes if you have a partner to climb with. only $6 climbingtime too.
