I'm just getting into this...been to the gym a couple times, have my basic gear & I'm in need of a wing to place myself under. So far I've only done about 10 routes...all 5.7 & 5.8's.

Anybody just LoVe to teach??? I know there are classed, but ughhh. I'd like to find someone that I can learn from & partner with. Going to be joining Rocksport.

Anybody, anybody?

Are you looking to go outdoors? Trad/Sport/Bouldering? Or do you just want to hang in the gym?

I am still learning, but have gear and a few buddies that go to the Red on occasion. It'd be no problem for you to meet up with us sometime.

Been thinking trad...I'd like to get better in the gym before I go outdoors. Need to learn safety & such. Do you go to the gym at all? It'd be nice to have people in my area. My climbing friends are in Cincy. Harder to hook up...

kid chee-toe, am i your buddy?

diggum, if you are looking to head to the red and learn about trad, sammy is a good bet. he is just getting into the game (has tons of gear), but does a good job of not getting in over his head.

i try to get down (to the red) often and would be willing to show you around. as i told easton, i am planning on coming down with my little girl (age 6) the weekend of the 17th of october. kinda far out, but just an f.y.i.

have fun and stay safe.

Slide on over to redriverclimbing.com. There are quite a few people from Louisville there. You'll find a partner in no time.

I don't live very close to Louisville, I go to the gyms in Indy. I'd be glad to meet you there some time, but it is a little drive for you. Learning outdoors isn't a bad way to go. There is plenty of 'easy' stuff to follow a trad leader in RRG to get the idea. The basics can be taught outdoors, but if you are uncomfortable about being outside, check your local gyms, or let me know when you can swing up to Indy.

Yes Ron, you are a buddy..... 8^) Thanks for the props. See you in RRG on the 17th. Maybe get you on a trad line?

Used to live in Indy...in Geist & Castleton. Where are you?

Is it better to learn outside then go to the gym or vice versa? The gym is an easier venue to meet people.

We're planning a trip to the Gorge in October. I'd like to get a little better so I can try to at least keep up with those more experienced.

I live in Terre Haute, but we don't have a gym. I go to Climb Time Towers on the NW side, usually.

I learned in a gym, the kids I teach learn in a gym. It is a good way to get some confidence before going 70-80 feet up on real rock. I don't know anyone who started on real rock, so I can't really give a comparison.

I'd be glad to help, either way, indoors or out. I climb about 5.9 (I will bag a 5.10 by spring even if it kills me), trad lead 5.7, and want to climb as much as possible, even inside.

Tara Hooty, huh? Cool.

Went to RockSport tonight...seems to be fairly easy to find people to help out. Fun to watch the better people too.

I hate being the newbie...must...get...better...

Have you asked at the gym you attend? The staff at the gyms I've been to have been helpful. They may have a climbing club you can join?? What ever you do, don't get discouraged. Boulder at the gym if you must, but don't give up ... there is someone out there that is willing to teach you, you need to find this person ... and, if I may add, ask without whinning ...

People around here aren't afraid to tell you how they feel, are they?

Was said more in a frustrated, need some help way...not whiney.
I'm not a whiner...I hate whiners.

I've been going by myself...met some cool people. I just hate asking b/c I am new & sometimes it may take me a few minutes & some guidance to finish the routes.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Ahhh ... yes, desperation ... remember it well! I was lucky enough to have someone to climb with when I started. Some gyms have a "singles" night, where not only does boy meet girl, but climber meets climber. Good luck, and if you are ever up my way, I'll climb with ya!
