My partner, whom I love dearly, is a pretty good climber, in my noob opinion. However, every time he puts his harness on, I must supress a grin when I see his beer belly jut out over the straps. Having had two 8lb babies in that flabby bubble that used to be my rock hard belly, I'm trying to restrict my not-so-cool "overhang"myself, but not having much luck. I can only climb once a week, but I try to run every other day, at least. I guess what my rambling comes to are a couple of questions. 1) Why can't climbing give me a pretty little belly? (and erase my stretch marks) 2) Do all the other climbing chicks have that pretty little belly, or just the ones at my wall? Now that I think about it, the beer belly would probably shrink if I quit drinking beer after a good day of climbing. But then what would I do?

I've got a six pack. Unfortunately, it's in my fridge.

You can keep a six pack in your fridge? Mine always seems to be down at least one before making it there. It probably just gets scared of the cold temp. and runs away. The rest never get had a chance...... BTW KimmyT-dig the quote in your profile and salute a fellow fan.

I have no shame in taking my shirt off and climbing in my sports bra, but do I have one of those tight bellies with a 6 pack, nah. Do I have a soft little belly, yup. And heck, I don't even have the excusse of even having kids! I too marvel at the stick thin little things with great abs, and would love to get that, but I'm not really built that way, so I won't worry too much.

Grrl, Very healthy attitude. Which I had the same. Very rarely will you catch me in sport bra land. I yield to vanity. And cute, the wonderful and sassy miss holdplease has a fan base. :)

When I am in a snowstorm, I can warm my cold hands on my beer belly. Most thin guys just have to amputate their fingers when they can't get them warm. Ha ha ha!

For thin, sub-vertical face climbs, a beer belly can be a plus! I like the way my belly keeps my weight centered over my feet. In my earlier twenties I got tired of falling over backwards due to my upper buffedness.

I too, have flab instead of 6 pack abs. I also have a monstorsly large scar from a big operation many years ago. No childbirth yet. The flab isn't limited to my abs. I'm not a very good climber, mostly cuz I'm out of shape and using climbing as a very fun way to help that.

My belly used to be ultra-ripped, but now it is knott. I discovered that it's better to enjoy a good beer than to admire your chiseled abs in the mirror. Worry less, climb more! Hardman Knott

Well I've been told I have a pretty little body, or hot as the guys like to say. But at my age it's ALOT of work (i'm 43) to keep it from all heading south. Bummer is I'm single and don't have anyone to enjoy it so I think I'd rather have a good lover with a beer belly and my own belly soft from having a baby. The grass is always greener on the other side. It's good to exercise for your health but don't worry about your belly so much. There are women like me that admire what you have! Enjoy it!

I saw a pregnant woman climbing today. She definately came from another country and it sounded like she was speaking German. This person walked up to her and said, "Excuse me, but are you pregnant?" The man she was with said, "No, she just came to America and discovered ice cream". It was pretty cute!

as far as i can tell, climbing won't trim up your abs or give you a "six pack" tummy. unfortunately, that comes from lots of abdominally focused exercise. or so i've heard ;)

In reply to: Grrl, Very healthy attitude. Which I had the same. Very rarely will you catch me in sport bra land. I yield to vanity. I think it's kind of funny that while I will sweat and heave my way up a route just to sit at the top for a few moments and then head right back down for no "logical" reason (logical being relative), you probably will not ever catch me doing any abdominal excercises. I shudder at the thought. Guess I'm just gonna have to take advantage of the belly by painting eyes and nose on it and making it talk.
