From the AP from a few days ago... CHEYENNE, Wyo. A federal judge has overturned a ban on snowmobiles in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. The U-S district judge in Wyoming ruled the Clinton-era ban was invalid because it didn't have enough public participation and failed to follow federal law. In his decision, the judge writes the ban was produced by "a prejudged, political decision" to ban the crafts from all national parks. The National Park Service is due next month to release a new rule on use of the vehicles in parks. Justice prevails!

Wow, I read stuff like this and I'm reminded how glad I am to be Canadian. Specifically British Columbian. Here in BC our Provincial Parks (making up 12% of the land mass of BC) Don't allow snowmobiles. I'm not sure, but I think the decision to not allow them was based on environmental science and not political strongarming. I'll hike or ski to the base of my ice climbs-thank you very much-and I'll go there to enjoy the climbing and admire the silence.

Actually, I was more excited about the prospect of being able to ride snowmobiles. I generally hike to my ice climbs also...they are usually in places that snowmobiles can't reach.
