Hello all,

Do any of ya'll have any good climbing games or games in general that you play around the campfire after a day on the rocks? The things we do usually just entail the bottle of maker's and bowls passed until comotose- but I was just wondering of anyone had any better/funner ideas.

Not to replace these activities, but in addition to them.....

Catch-the-Coal is always a fun game. Pluck a glowing coal out of the fire and juggle it between your hands, pass it back and forth across the fire, skyball it....... possibilities are endless.

It's better at night since the glowing ember looks more impressive and hot, but as long as you keep it moving, it doesn't really burn you. I say really cause every once and a while a bit of it sticks to the skin.... and that does kind of burn...... nothing a bowl and swig of maker's won't cure.

All right, I will give you my favorite, but you have to give reports back.

Start with a grocery store paper bag standing upright on the ground.

1. Without using your hands (on the ground), each player pick up the bag using only your mouth.
2. Tear off the top two inches of the bag, leaving it standing.
3. Repeat the players picking it up with only the mouth.
4. Tear off another two inches.
5. Keep doing rounds until you are all trying to lick a postage stamp size piece of soggy brown paper bag off the dirt ground.

I am sure you already know how to play 'butt quarters' and will not go into that one (my second favorite).

Would someone PLEASE hide the duct tape from Mother_Sheep!!!

That being said, my suggestion would be to grab the headlamps and go climbing.

i have an activity that requires just the right folks to make it fun.

Humaneering

The possibilities are endless, but here's a starting problem: One person is the humaneer, another is the . . . . um . . . . well . . . . we'll go with human for now, i guess. Human stands firm and still for the activity, with hands in pockets of sturdy pants, or (better) hands latched onto burly leather belt. Humaneer mounts human from the front, with hands around neck and legs on thighs. Ok, no more touching the ground for the humaneer. Humaneer climbs up and over human's head, down the back (yep, head first), between the legs, and (crux) back up to the starting postion. Ok, that was one lap.

Obviously, certain individuals are more suited to he humans, some are best leaving the sturdiness to the stout. Next step is to have two "humans" lock arms around each other's necks (think wrestling). This creates a little human monkey bar that an imaginative humaneer can go anywhere on. Under legs, wrap aound the middle, go for it!

If you do this with strangers, you make some pretty fast friends. It's a ton of fun to watch, but way more fun to play. I've never seen anything beyond two humans to climb, but i'd love to try someday.

has anybody else out there ever done this? I've thoroughly enjoyed the responses i get whenever i respond to the "what do you guys want to do now" question with "How bout a rousing round of humaneering?!?!?"

Only once have i heard somebody ask "is you nipple on?", but he got dropped instantly.

ok, i got another one - the bottle game.

Break up into teams of two, and draw a line on the ground. The objective of the game is for each team to try to place the bottle (whatever's around, nalgene, beer, but plastic usually works out a bit better) as far away from the line as possible. the first person can only touch the ground with his/her hands, and only one placement. The second person can't touch the ground at all. The way that folks usually figure this out goes something like this: First person falls forward onto the ground in a push-up position, with toes rigth on the line. Second person, holding the bottle, crawls/climbs out on the first person's back, and reaches as far as possible to place the bottle. ok, not done yet. They have to climb back off without touching the ground beyond the line, and then help the first person back up without touching anywhere besides where their hands touched first. This one can be a little tricky, once again a burly belt helps on the "bottom" so the "top" can help pull them back up.

I've seen some folks get pretty creative with this game, the "top" can hook their feet under the torso of the "bottom" and get pretty durn far out if the "bottom" is solid enough. A team can also get a few more inches if the "bottom" can do a push-up with their teammate on their back.

Very fun to play, even more fun to watch.

Beer can stand

Place 12oz empty beer can on level spot
Balance on can on one foot without colapsing it
Bend over and quickly tap both sides of the can causing it to colapse, (no points if you pinch your fingers)

Somewhere between 185-195 lb or 4 or 5 beers at any weight this trick becomes impossible although even more amusing.

This was one of the funniest rest day/campfire activities I've seen in a while....

Submitted by: maculated on 2004-07-15
Description: On a rest day we were all sitting around doing nothing useful, but the squirrel bravado was up, so Fargoan and I came up with a trap system. Here he is taking the bait. We were 3 for 3 in under ten minutes. Squirrels, when bagged and suspended from branches, literally scare the crap out of themselves. Just a little beta. Our success ellicited many imitators and even a round of applause.

I believe you are talking about this:

1. Put a Nalgene on the ground

2. while standing on one foot, try and bend down and pick up the bottle with your teeth, with out touching the ground with your other foot or losing your balance.

The best I could do was get in my teeth right before I fell over.

another nalgene game.. called NALGENE-O
2-players stand about 20 or 30 feet apart.
you fill the nalgene to about 1/4 (more if you're really brave or stupid).
first player has to stand still while while the other player (under-hand only!) lobs the nalgene at him. If he flinches, other player gets a point. If it hits him and he doesn't flinch, the bruised victim gets 2 pts for takin' it like a champ.

basically this goes back and forth untill you run out of guts or teeth.

we were playing the bottle game in C4 in june, and some of the moves got pretty rediculous, i.e. underclinging the chin, toe hooking armpits, etc...Its a mighty awesome game, esp. late at night, ifn' u know what i mean.

The squirell fishing was also going on the weekend I was there, it has to have been one of the funniest things ive ever seen....

hummmm GAMES?

well, at fire we alreading have--?bottles,bowls,metal music, spraying of beta, food, other parties/partners from the next tent over, etc....
-->>>so what to do to make it more fun???....

i was always a fan of ONE-ARMED or ONE-LEGGED wrestling.....funny ass shit, drunk or not....always a great laugh....(one arm behind your back, holding onto your belt or holding one of your leg behind your ass, like if you stretching your quads)...fun for campfires, weddings and anyother sort of occassion.
-spar-ng (i don't studying any sort of fighting arts or anything, afew of my 4X4ing buds do, but always fun to spar...not so much of a laugh....me and my buds two different styles,.first to get a good punch in (too hard or anything, just good contact, 95% are blocked, and always in the crest or gut, nothing at the face..)...OR, wrestling/submission....2 shoulders on the grounf or till someone calls mommy/daddy
-slack-lining....i'm not that good....just fun sometimes
-the 'who can get the drunkest' game....
-politics/philosopy/ethics/other crap discusions
-MUSIC!
-some times--->drum circles
-hacky-sack
-ever popular, truth or dare...havent' done it for a while...only with kids my age...19.......its just stupid with people older than me
-the 'who can smoke a cigarette the fastest" game...i smoking a 100's (superkings) down to 45 seconds....my lips and tonge are always burnt though
-other 'bar' games
-drinking
-cards
-Nalgene Games (random thoughts involving a Nalgene, but it always involves pain for some reason...to maybe prove that we are weaker than nalgenes)
-hell....i'm never bored witht the people i climb with, stuff just happens and we can never shut up about anything...sometimes climbers share in common, cus our main common interest unites us unlike anyother "sport"...

The Russian Knife Game

Not really for campfire, but a good campsite game.

So you draw a circle in a patch of dirt about 8 feet in diameter, and divide it equally into however many people there are using the knife to draw the lines (or a sharp stick). You go in a circle, trying to throw the knife (light pocket knives work best) into another player's "land". If the knife sticks in, and you can fit your first two fingers in between the handle and the ground, then you have to draw a straight line using the knife in the direction of the knife's blade so that you cut off a piece of their land. However, you can't touch anyone else's land or outside the circle. If you do, the other players can tag you and you lose your turn. If you successfully draw a line, the player whose land you cut chooses which land piece they want and you connect yourself to the piece they didn't connect. If someone has an island (not connected to the outside circle), you can't cut their land, but you get them out by throwing the knife in how many sides they have in a row (a four-sided island would take 4 consecutive throws). If you can't stand in your land for 5 seconds without going outside it, you lose. The goal is to get everybody's land.

It sounds complicated, but it's really very simple.
