Crack weeding ethics

I've recently climbed some really nasty cracks partially or completely full of moss, lichen, and/or weeds. I suppose this issue applies to cleaning face climbs as well.

Just curious about peoples' opinions about where to draw the line on route cleaning.

(FYI I mostly try to leave no trace, but I'm not against cleaning to get gear in)
