I'm very new to the extreme southwest. I transplanted to Yuma from the tundra of WI. Does anyone know of any routes on Castle Dome or Picacho Peak right outside of town :?: Also if any climbers in the area are looking for a partner let me know :). I'm EXTREMELY safe (anal?) and have most any gear for a day trip. I used to work in a gym so i'm just fine with teaching.

Welcome to the desert. I spent the last two winters in Yuma. To my knowledge, there is NO climbing there. But, Yuma is close to LOTS of great climbing. Red Rocks isn't that far, neither is J Tree. I'm in Tempe now and Phoenix has several areas that are worth checking out, especially sport stuff in Queen Creek. If you want more info or are interested in coming up sometime, drop me a PM. By the way, what brought you to Yuma? MCAS?

Thanks for the reply. Have you HEARD of anyone even THINKING about these climbs? I can't believe that 500+ feet of rock would go untouched. Even in lettuce-heaven Yuma. I dumbfounded the ranger lady at picacho with some access and ethics questions. Just the same at castle dome. As for Queen Creek, I'd love to meet up with you perhaps after the holidays if the weather holds out. What brought me here was a job after graduation. A luxury many of my peers don't get. I just graduated with a teaching degree so I'm teaching Phy Ed in San Luis High School.

Just wondering if I can resurrect this thread. I'm in Yuma til the end of october, and found myself with a bit more weekend time than I thought I'd have. (read: have no gear) I'm looking for places to boulder, get after some small sport stuff, whatever. Advice/beta is more than welcome

It took me several attempts but I've found bouldering 23 min. outside Yuma. There are several nice rocks near the Muggins Mountain's.

Been a little while since this thread was running, but thought i'd give a shot and see if there's anyone still living out that way? Seasonal work is taking me and a friend to Yuma, where we'll be living May-Sept. Would love to keep up the climbing we do at home, so if anyone is out round Yuma and diggin some climbing partners, let me know. If not, I'd def appreciate any advice on climbing in the region. Thanks, Cyrus

Right on! Let me know if you figure it out for sure. I'll have a bit of gear with me, at least enough to set up some TR and do any sport that we can find (though, finding sport round Yuma is probably not gonna happen). Let me know. Also, any other words on the town itself are great, I know it's kind of a nowhere town, but I'm sure y'all at least know a good restaurant or bar or something. Later. - CJM

right on! Alicia and I will be down there about the same time. We're doing wildlife recovery work on the river, so we'll be damn busy while on the clock, but will get a large chunk of days off in a row, so climbing trips should work out fine (long as we don't broil in the sun). Hopefully some more rock junkies will surface as well.

Crazyrocks, I just sent you a PM. Look me up when you get back. That goes for any other Yuma climbers out there as well!
