Touchstone San Jose is really cool!! I believe it costs $10 for a day pass. The bouldering there is 5x better than that of Planet Granite Santa Clara's. The problems are just more thought out and have better flow. The walls are also a good 5 feet higher than PG Santa Clara. I'm currently a member of PG Santa Clara, but I may change over to Touchstone real soon. Everytime I've gone to Touchstone San Jose the people have been fairly chill. They can also setup a slackline inside too at a moments notice. The only problem I have with Touchstone San Jose is that there's sometimes a sh!tload of static electricity in there, so make sure you discharge yourself before you take a sip of water. Recently, it hasn't been as bad.

I live in Los Angeles, but my parents live in Los Gatos. Last time I went up to visit them, I started to feel a little itchy for some climbing, so I went to check out the touchstone gym. I had a great time. It wasn't too expensive: $10 for a day pass, and $4 to rent some shoes, since mine were back at home. There are many routes, at all different grades. The grades seem consistent with what I expected, and for the most part consistent across the gym. The route setting was good. Definitely check it out. I'll be back up there for Christmas, and I'll be stopping by for another session.

The Touchstone memberships are good at all their other gyms, so you can take a trip up to San Francisco or Berkeley if you want to get on the 50' walls for a change. The San Jose gym is bouldering only.

I went for like the 6th time this weekend and have been going every weekend and still will be. It is awesome and the staff is really nice they help you out with problems and sometimes do them with you if you are doing a climbing game like "add two moves". It is $5 for a day pass by the way.

I've been there when I was on a business trip to SJ. The problems and people were cool. Gets my 4 stars for an after work session.

In reply to: I will be living/working in San Jose starting next week and wanted to know if any one has been to the indoor boulder gym that is in downtown San Jose. I'd check out Planet Granite Santa Clara also, and see which meets your needs better. I'm sure the bouldering problems at the Touchstone bouldering gym are better than at PG. OTOH, the PG gym is better overall, and despite being a Touchstone member, on the rare occasions I go to a gym in that area, I go to PG. I like the bouldering at my local Touchstone gym a lot more than at either of those two.

You might also check out the Planet Granite in Santa Clara. I'm a Touchstone member, but on the rare occasions I visit a gym in that area it's usually PG. One of the reasons is they have some equipment to workout after you climb.
