Where I climb here in Oklahoma, we have these giant centepedes that are black with yellow legs. You really gotta watch out for em when your sticking your hand in a crack. They'll sting the shit out of you. Copper heads are always a threat too.
One time when i was climbing at Pennacle Peak in Arizona I got jumped by a chuckwala lizard. Non poisonous but scary as hell, those are the ones that flare up the skin on there neck and make a loud hissing noise when you scare em. Gila monsters were a threat, but i hear they are next too nothing when it comes to aggresivness
It'd suck to have an encounter with a mountain goat.

Friend kicked a reasonably large rock off a ledge one time. while i'm paying less attantion to him then i should, (didn't need that lodged in my skull) he noticed the large black snake that had been under it and bailed off the ledge quite fast. it was an adventure...

When I head out with n00bs, they always freak about bears. I've had bear runins myself, but never while climbing, They usually stay below treeline where there's more food. :?

I've had friends get charged by mamma bears in Teton National park. I have come withing 20 feet of feeding black bears on the way down from climbs. You have to be especially careful during berry season.

Deer,
I hit 2 of them within an hour and a half of each other last spring while driving from Lee Vining to Yosemite early in the morning. The first came before I entered the park on that big curvy hill (I know there's a bunch of those there). It jumped across the road just as I was passing, and when i saw it it's head was about 5 feet in front of my windshield. Not much to be done there. The second came a few miles after Olmstead point. Pretty much the same thing except that this time it didn't hit my windshield. I guess it was a pretty bad omen before a week of climbing, but we had a good time regardless. And some coyotes had easy meals.

Ya gotta watch out for kangaroos on the roads around here. Not so much a problem when one has a bull bar on the front of ones truck but they can make a mess of you if you catch them mid hop and they come through the windscreen. I`ve heard of people being disembowelled through a roos kicking in panic inside a moving car.
Don`t run over Echidnas (Spiny Anteaters), their quills are hollow and you may as well chuck your tyres away after that.
There is a story of a climber at Frog which is home to crack climbing in Oz. He stuck his hand in the crack and there was a brown snake in there, he lobbed off the climb post haste.
We`ve come across death adders and red belly black snakes on more than one occasion. Then there are the giant stinging trees but then they aren`t animals so they don`t count for this thread.
I`ve had encounters with little tiny bats in pockets on cliffs.
We have gotten swooped by Perigrine Falcons and Wedge Tailed Eagles.
At the beach one has to watch out for Stone Fish and Blue Ringed Octopus, Cone Shells and not to mention sharks. But those aren`t really climbing related so they don`t really count for this thread either.

here in India, just outside bombay
snakes - plenty of poisonous ones around. some of them like to hide in cracks
leopards. less of a threat now, but many people have had encounters. these leopards are man - eating and had to be captured. still cant take a chance.
thankfully ive run into a snake just once.

I've had a bear come around the corner of a crag and I had to do some FAST climbing! (Alaska)
In Minnesota last fall, those stinky ladybugs were everywhere on the rock...

Cobras and green bamboo snakes... particularly the bamboo snakes as they go anywhere... usually a cobra to look out for on the approach. Other than some nasty jungle crawlies it's pretty O.K. Do get the ocassional monkey here... they don't hurt you though... just your ego, when you see them race up a thin 5.12 crack, one handed with a fruit in their mouth.

Dayhikers, tourons ("mommy...look how far I can through a rock from up here!!), the drunk shit with a mullet "Hell, son, I climbed stuff like that in the sixth grade, but we didnt have those safety-lines."
Oh, copperheads. I've had two close calls now. They didn't do anything. I was just inchess from putting a hand or foot on them.

I'm suprised this thread isn't longer...
In the Northeast I've run across several copperheads and blacksnakes. I stepped on one once and almost put my hand on a second when coming down the popular walk offs at the gunks. I can remember three blacksnakes. One coming down a tree I was anchored too and the others tucked away in horizontal cracks near the top of climbs, all in CT. Never got bit though, but close.
When I led Gelsa at the Gunks, I totally blew the first pitch traverse and went straight up a small roof to a shelf with a big block(never climbed it before, way harder then 5.4, but within my ability, traversed and led the correct 5.4 corner). Anyway, a very pissed off flying squirrel popped out from behind the block as I was setting the P1 anchor. Even more shocking was when he jumped off! Pretty cool seeing him glide 50ft or so to a tree nearby.
Speaking of squirrels, red squirrels can make for a pretty exciting time when they make their way into your partner's backpack. LOL
Bugs, bugs, bugs. Pulled off three deer ticks, been treated three times. Very hard to spot. Blackflies in late May, early June really suck, blood that is. Worst part about late spring in NE. At the Gunks there are these nastly little critters we used to call the widgets. I think they were chiggers but not sure. They'd bite and leave a scar that would last for weeks. Cant' forget the all the various bees, wasps, hornets and the like. Too many stories to list here, but they can really ruin your day.
