The Trad vs. Boulderer Wars

It’s time to settle this once and for all. The Trad vs. Boulderer Wars have gone on long enough, and at too great a cost. Too many lives have been lost, too many futures ruined, and too much valuable pr0n surfing time squandered. Trad Climbers, think of all of the ham sandwiches you’ve had to skip and all of the pointless excess finger strength you’ve developed sitting in front of your keyboard (in a Bob Seger T-shirt) feverishly trying to come up with spicy variants on the term “arrogant young punks”. Boulderers, wouldn’t you rather be back on your parent’s couch, playing the X-Box version of DynoMechaCrimpPimp - Xtreme Rock Dudez and…thinking…errr, well…playing that video game? With a realllly big slurpee?

I know you would.

If this were Athens, we would no doubt debate the relative merits in front of the Senate, and then the citizens of the republic would decide. If this were Mad Max III, we’d all pile into the ThunderDome and finish it. If this were 1700’s France, we’d duel…although tricams and bubba brushes at 20 paces would be a little anti-climactic. If this were West Side Story, we’d have a righteous dance-off in the streets. Ahhhh…nothing like a good dance-off…

…umm, where was I?

So, what to do? Citizens, what say you?

Homard!

i think he had me right on.

and i wasn't really aware of a trad vs. boulderer war.

bouldering is kinda like wacking off. it may be fun, and we all do it every now and than (some times lots), but its sure not the real thing.

I say segregation! We have a TradClimbing.com and a BoulderGripper.com. We segregate the states there so there would be Trad states and Boulder states. The ownership of the state would be done by a game of rock-paper-siccors between Boulderers and Tradclimbers. The Sportclimbers could range free in the boulderer's land bolting the shit out of anything to high to highball. But if you were in a Trad state you could only wear non-MadRock lace ups and you would be stoned with stoppers if you brought a bouldering pad into a trad state. If you were in a bouldering state any gear that can take a KN and is made of metal would be baned. If you were caught with such gear they would grind you up and turn your body into SuperChalk. Trad climbers would not have listen to noisy boulderes everywhere taking over the planet and quibling over grades. And the boulderer's would stop getting beat up by old-people with lots of gear. Your computer would tell the websites where the user is logging on from so that would decide which website you would be sent to. But in this way people who wished could still do both, they would just have to go to the next state to climb in a different style. Oh and Aid climbers can get Florida.......

Well sure, it's been hashed and rehashed, but never in such a heartwarming, irreverent way. I think all of us trad cllimbers should-- Oh, wait, I boulder sometimes. OK, I think all of us boulderers should-- Hold on, I climb trad, too. Well maybe we could band together and go get those sport-- crap. Those damn dirty aid-- fuck! Those soloists-- SHIT!

I am my own enemy.

Hey Leave Subtle alone! He is being funny as are all of his posts that I have seen. He is not trying to incite something because he acurately makes fun of both sides.

Trad and bouldering are the only true forms of rock climbing. Used in combination, a "trad boulderer" can outclimb every other style.

hmm,

Maybe we should form a truce by proclaiming that Ron Kauk be king and ruler off all. Who better to lead us then the author of Astroman, thriller and Midnight Lightning? It should be a consideration that both styles saw there growth occur in the same place by the same people.

I mean come on. Why is this still being discussed. With the danger of grinding equine bones to dust isn't discussing this like (quoting a recent metaphor) debating the various pros and cons between missionary and doggy style?

From now on all simmiler threads should come with this caveat:

*I can't/am to weak to go climbing so I need to argue about nothing.

Lastly I would like to quote a route name from Cave Rock:

Shut the feck up and climb!!!

ps, anyone down for the Owen's River Gorge on Wed?

Be careful what you say. Whichever side that can lure sport climbers into an alliance will win the war.

On one hand Trad and Sport both use ropes.
On the other, the bolt/ no bolt debate is as fierce as the abortion debate.

Like I said, I love everyone, lets all get along.
