I have really wide feet and i'm having problems finding a shoe thats tight on my toes without cutting circulation off everywhere else. I rent them in a gym but they are very uncomfortable. any suggestions would be great.

5.10 X-Rays were designed for wide feet but I'm not sure if they are still available.

my girlfriend has tiny and by proportion quite fat feet, and finds scarpa vortex's to be a good fit

all of the above are about as wrong as wrong can be. I've tried 'em all and sport a EEEE wide foot (I've NEVER seen a foot as wide as mine, and I work in outdoor sports retail selling shoes).

Hands down the best shoe is the 5.10 Moccasym because it stretches..the best for performance is the 5.10 anasazi velcro.

Period.

that's all there is to it.

end of story.

EEEE, I shit you not, and I can provide pictures of the monsters.

having small and average width feet all i can offer was what my g/f says, but she can wear childrens size 13 shoes so that might be a little bit of a genetic abnormality when it comes to sizing

The anasazi velcro is a narrow shoe.

If you are wearing a size that is comfortable for you with EEE feet, there is no way they are any close to the right size in terms of length.

Flinstone feet also! If your looking for entry level all-around shoes, 5.10 spires ($89 anywhere) fit my 4E feet great in the same size as properly fitting street shoes.

boz, I don't care what the hell the anasazi velcro is advertised as or what you have to say.

All I have to say is that I've been climbing for 12 years, have mongoloid feet of proportions you would never believe, and the anasazi velcro is the best shoe I have ever worn, with the moccasym being the most comfortable.

end of story.

no more questions asked.

period.

I've got EE feet and I've had a pair of 5-10 Summits for several years now that fit great. Toes are plenty tight but I don't loose feeling in them either.

They're not a very technical shoe, and they suck for heel-hooking, but they fit.

5.10 mocs & the anasazi velcro's feet my wide feet. Also the Mad Rock's feet as well. But I prefer the 5.10's b/c the rubber lasts a lot longer than the Mad's. If you get the Moc's, I went downa size and half b/c they are unlined leather & stretch like crazy. At first they hurt a little bit, but the pain is tolerable. Or go down to two full sizes. My velcro's I tried to down half a size, but the pain was intolerable. It's up to you, try your street size or go down half to a full size.

I also have wide feet. A couple of years ago I purchased a pair of Scarpa Infernos and find that they are the best all around shoe I have ever climbed in. Scarpa stopped making them about 2 years ago and repllaced them with the Reflex which I have not tried yet but hear that they are pretty solid all around and fit the wider feet as well as the Infernos did.

5.10 has never fit right

I can wear any shoe boreal makes...their rubber just blows.

I have EE 11 1/2 street shoe and I love my 5.10 Newtons. They said they wouldn't stretch when I bought them but I had my bigger foot stretched at a shoe maker and now a year later they have definetly stretched.
Newton's are great shoes.

I stand by my point.

if you are getting your foot into an anasazi velcro, you are wearing too big a shoe.

I wear 9, or 9.5 street.
My feet are of slightly wider than average, but not too bad.

I wear a 7.5 anasazi, and the shoe was about 1/2, to 3/5" narrower than my foot.

So I say again. If you have a EEE+ foot and are wearing anasazis, they are too big a shoe for you.

5.10 and Madrock have very narrow lasts. While I agree that ocasional anomalies can occur, I feel this holds true for most everyone (sometimes you get lucky and find a nice fit, even with paddles for feet).

La Sportiva historically had mid to wide lasts (5.10 too, a long time ago), but is slowly getting narrow with ever new shoe it produces. The Miura is the only shoe left that fits my feet!

Now I switched to Saltic, and my wide feet cannot be happier. Glove-esque fit, and performance to boot. They don't have anything down-turned in their current lineup - but who climbs in down-turned shoes anyways?

A little off topic, but anyone experienced this problem..
I have the "genius toe" or whatever the hell it is where the toe next to your big toe is the longest on your foot. Makes most shoes really uncomfortable and in order to wear one without being in a lot of pain, I almost have to go too big. anyone else experience this prob? mythos are working well right now though.

I've also got a longer second toe. I've been told it's called hammer toe. Combined with my large feet (13 EEE) It makes all shoe purchases difficult. For anything that has to be snug I've had to go with NewBalance. But they don't make climbing shoes.

The hammer toe is weaker than the big toe but since it sticks out more bears most of the weight in front on toeing. I endup edging these when I can but It's a no can do with pockets.

I've got avery old pair of La Sportivas that have Stretched to to hell and pair of Boreal fires that fit after stretching. Both of these are loose on the front and really terrible at toeing in pockets and small ledges. My fairly new 5.10 Newtons are still too tight for prolonged wear but actually alow me toe into things.

I keep reading reviews looking for the phrase "too wide for normal feet" I'll order two pairs.

There is only a small climbing community here. I'm really longing to one of those stores that has lots of shoes and will let you try them out on a little in store wall. Until then I'll Just Max out the credit card and return the ones that don't fit.

Good luck looking for a shoe and if you find one let us know.

having a longer second toe is most definitely not "hammer toe" . just a fact. i have a longer second toe and i wear saltic vampires and falcos (whichever ones i grab first) , best shoes ever, stickiest rubber out there, and it lasts too, wont turn this onto a gear review but they really are one of thos small-ish companies that make awesome produce not like some of the big names who make tat just cos theyre big names.

I think that not all "wide feet" are the same. I don't think of myself as having really wide feet, but when I try on rock shoes at demos the reps say I have a "wide toe box". I find the 5.10 anasazi velcro too painful to wear. I've tried, several times, because its such a popular shoe, but I can't stand them on my feet, even a full size larger than what I normally wear. I suspect if, like me, you are porportionally wider at the toe box you might find the velcros unbearable. On the other hand, I can imagine someone wide all over who's experience might be different. For really hard stuff I love my Sportiva Miuaras. Unlike the anasazi's they will stretch and conform to your foot. I also love my mocasyms and my 5.10 Hueco's--which are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, and a great all around shoe.

thanks for your input. I tried both on and they both fit better than the the ones at the gym, but I ended up buying mad rocks frenzy lace. they fit my feet well and they have lots of padding around the heal and the tounge, but I hear the rubber on mad rocks are not that good so I guess i'll find out.

he who is comfortable is usually happy!
