i took the alternator off the truck yesterday...after waiting almost 2 months for troy to do it
two months ago it wouldnt start...i put a new battery in it...started for two days then....dead again
so figuring i never heard a knock...can't be the starter
took the alternator off yesterday, got it tested today, it was fine!
put the alternator back on..tightened the belt... broke one of the cheap ass wrenches troy left (he took the good ones to asheville)
took the battery off again...back to walfart...got a new one
truck started!!!! WOOOT!
im so proud of myself (pats back with really greasy hand)
i think i know what i want to be when i grow up!!!!
i called troy as i was cruising around wilmington...burning rubber...laughing at him
8^)
i can't wait to tell tommyT !!!!!!!!!
he'll be so proud i didn't use needle nose pliers

careful guys...she'll tune ya all right
way to go anne...have you checked for loose wires connecting the battery to your starter? I had to remove those and sand the connections down to remove all the corrosion on the post on my aunts car. I'm an Industrial mechanic/millwright that's not working right now, lives on a farm with his ailing grandmother and have a small garage and all my tools from work here. handy pet to have me thinks

Make sure it's not a bad wire. I had a wire go bad, then I fixed that connector on my alternator, then had the regulator go bad, then the alternator, then got a bad alternator and regulator, and finally had to upgrade to a good internally regulated Alfa Romeo alternator and replace much of the wiring associated with it. All within 2 weeks. Have any idea how difficult it is to get a good alternator for an Alfa.... Sheeyit, sometimes I wonder why I love my car so.

darran, i didn't notice that they were loose, i reconnected them correctly (obviously :) )
i did notice a lot of corrosion on the red connector (positive), i took a screwdriver to it to expose the metal again
and jay buying cheap batteries NEVER PAYS OFF!!!!
bill tuning up a car involves changing the spark plugs,i think i could do that
martha...you are so HOT!!!!!
and thanks T...all should bow down...especially troy!!!

No hugs for Shaky but damn, Anne, I'm impressed. Car motors are definately not one of my strong suits.
I once had my car refuse to start while on a road trip. I pushed it and popped the clutch all of the way from Ohio to Yosemite, then Moab, and finally back to NH over the course of 2 1/2 months.
It turns out that I just had needed to tighten three bolts on the starter motor to get it to re-engage. Starter motor? Where's that?
I also had a hole in the muffler that I would repair every 300 miles with the heavy tin that Budweiser cans used to come in, just cut the can and duct tape it in place until it melted through. Same truck, same trip.
