My in-laws are moving to Goshen, Indiana...don't ask me why...but is there some climbing around there...I looked at the routes on RC.com but it looks like a bleak existance for climbers in Indiana. I'm not sure where Goshen exactly is, but I think it is North Central. I have a feeling we will be making a trip to Indiana this summer, so if there is anything worth going to...please reply. I don't want to go fishing! I hate fishing!

I grew up not far from Goshen, and to the best of my knowledge, there isn't any climbing in northern Indiana. (Not much in S. Indiana, either, but that's beside the point.) Best bet would be a gym. IIRC, there's a climbing gym in Fort Wayne, about 2 hours from Goshen. Sorry, bro, but a climbing hotbed Indiana is not.

In reply to: Sorry, bro, but a climbing hotbed Indiana is not. reno... first i see you're posting in a sport climbing forum, now in the midwest. go back to your happy, hot, helicopter. (i'll send your pics tomorrow, i promise) glanzer, reno is right. indiana is the wrong place to be if you like anything other than nascar and basketball, but you aren't moving, you're just visiting. my in-laws live in wisconsin, so i eat brats and drink beer when i visit der house, eh? so... watch basketball and talk about jeff gordon or pm me and we'll head to kentucky and the red river gorge. problem solved. regards r.r.

In reply to: reno... first i see you're posting in a sport climbing forum, now in the midwest. Ron: Yeah, well I'm in withdrawl. 'Cept for a couple hours with Epic_Ed, learning the basics of aid climbing, I ain't gotten vertical since Ouray. And to make matters worse, I'm heading to Vegas tomorrow, and NOT to climb. Grrr..
In reply to: so... watch basketball and talk about jeff gordon or pm me and we'll head to kentucky and the red river gorge. Glanzer, this is an excellent idea... Ron is as nice of a guy as one could hope to find, and a safe, solid climber.... He'll hook you up right.

I think there is a climbing wall at Notre Dame, but that probably won't do you much good. Reno, I can't remember, did you ever tell me where you grew up? I lived in South Bend for a year, though I was born in Richmond (and I couldn't tell you a thing about Richmond). Go Irish!

If you really must get vertical, might I suggest going underground? Indiana has lots of caves.

I share bad news about Fort Wayne climbing... there is no climbing gym in ft wayne any more. They closed it down... But there are two in Indianapolis: Climb Time and Climb Time Towers I'm still in search for more in the area. -Rob

I live in Granger IN. ABOUT .45 min. NE of Goshen. We go to Climb Kalamzoo (Kalamazoo MI.) It's an hour from Granger and about 1.15 from Goshen. Once in awhile I am able to get into the ND wall with Grad. student friends but that is unreliable. Other wise to get a quick fix, we do some traversing on the 7' high stone walls that are set up at the entrance to most of the sub-divisions up here. For our real climbing we take 2 trips a year to Kentucky and Tenn. Good luck
