Mine's getting awefully stiff... 3 out of 5 stars

Review by: tigerlilly, 2008-05-18

after one year of light use. I bought the dry single-pattern version on sale last winter as my first rope. I usually climb with more experienced folks who like to use their own ropes, so this one hasn't been out much in the last year. It has seen some toproping on rock and ice, and the occasional rappel, and it's getting tough to tie knots in. It's not supple at all, anywhere along the length. It is stored clean and dry in a bedroom, and is always flaked out to dry after a day on the ice, or any other time it gets damp or wet. Other than that, it's fine - no fuzzing of the sheath. Given Mammut's excellent reputation, I'm surprised this is happening. My next rope was going to be a Mammut, but now I'm not so sure.

Good Rope 5 out of 5 stars

Mammut Flash 10.5 3 out of 5 stars

A good rope, but not the best one. After 1.5 year of use it fattened up so much that giving slack trough a Gri-gri is a workout by itself, feels more like an 11 plus rope now, definitely not a project line.
Other than that is sturdy, solid, durable, but completely lost "bendability" it is very stiff now.
I need to add that I used this rope a lot and take a high number of lead falls on it, still I am surpriesd at the stiffness and how quickly the rope "aged". I washed it once in a machine.
Good rope overall. The best is still Edelrid.

The Mammut Flash is truely an AWSOME rope. It is expensive, but the rope makes up for all of that the first time you use it. I love it, and not have two of them. MAMMUT made me a beleiver!

This rope is bomber. After 4 years, it still looks great and handles well. I bought a new rope from Edelwies, but it looked scary at the end of a single summer. Mammut is expensive, but it's worth it. I'm picking up a Mammut Revelation 9.2mm soon. Hopefully, I'll like it even more!
