Review 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: aikibujin, 2004-04-16

I've owned and used five different headlamps over the years (PT Vor Tec, PT Aurora, PT Switchback, PT Yukon HL, and BD Zenix), and the Yukon HL is my favorite headlamp out of them all. It is not lightweight, so when I need to go light (like for backpacking or traveling), I'd take the Aurora. But for all other applications where weight isn't an issue or where I need high light output, from car camping to mountaineering, I'd take the Yukon HL. Likes: the 1-watt LED was brighter than I had expected, just slightly dimmer than my PT Vor Tec with a halogen bulb, but with a whiter light than the halogen. The battery life though, beats the halogen by a long shot. The 1-watt LED would shine for more than 20 hours on a set of fresh batteries, compare to just a couple of hours with the halogen. Dislikes: A little pricey, probably because the 1-watt LED is still relatively new. Bulkier and heavier than the other 1-watt LED hybrid headlamp I bought: the BD Zenix (but I think the Yukon HL is a better headlamp than Zenix).
