Review 2 out of 5 stars

The Am'D is cost-prohibitive and would be a nightmare for lefties. Great for the Gri-Gri. The ball mechanism requires a bit of finesse, otherwise it risks damage. Surprisingly, this was the only autolocker that lasted over two years at the gym where I worked before somebody ruined the autolock mechanism.

OK here is a problem...Check out the sliver of plastic that keeps this one from opening if the gate is cross loaded. VERY possible freeze/muck hazard too! I own one and I'll send it back to Petzl and see if they will trade it for a screw lock or a double action. BUY THE SCREW GATE!

I bought it because I wanted to eliminate the possibility of the rope running over and unlocking my traditional locker. I think the ball lock thing does that nicely, but it's a pain to open one-handed. Still, I'm staying with it.

I still do a double-check to make sure it's locked by the way.

UPDATE:

Everything I said above is true, but after just a few months the locking mechanism started sticking in the unlocked position. Very annoying. I returned it to REI. I'm changing my rating from a 3 to a 2.

I've found this biner works really well with a GriGri. I'm not a big fan of auto-lockers, but this one's not so bad.
